Would anyone know where I could find a vacant house? [Merlin pauses, drumming his fingers against the journal's pages.] This apartment is getting a little cramped--[and the next bit sounds rather forced, as though someone had expressly ordered him to say it:] It's not really up to snuff for a King of Camelot and his royal household.

[ After spending time with Vyse in the clinic all day, Fina only has enough time to look in the library in the evening. Not fully comprehending the concept of ghosts and haunting, she does not find the sounds coming from deeper within the library that disturbing.

But she does want to find out what the strange noise is though and follows the sounds, but instead gets a shock when the page of a book catches fire and illuminates Merlin's face and ducks back behind the bookcase she wandered out from behind. ]

[At the instinct that someone was watching him, Merlin extinguishes the magical fire.]

Is someone there?

Fina!

[He stumbles, rushing to close up some of his books and hurry to the book-shelf that she is behind.] What are you doing here?

Um... I was looking for something to read.

[ She looks back over at the book he abandoned that had been engulfed in flames a moment before. ] I'm sorry if I distracted you from your um.. experiment.

[Merlin reaches back and grabs the book, flipping it open to a charred page.] I was trying to find a spell that would magically read the book aloud. [The disappointment on his face shows how keenly he feels this failure.]

[ As he flips through the pages and settles on the scorched page and feels the weight of disappointment, Fina notices that disheartened expression attempts to raise his spirits. He had done the same for her so many times, so she felt obliged to return the favour: ]

I didn't know magic could be used to make books talk. [ She glances at the cover, expecting the spine to be embossed with numinous symbols linked especially to Luceti. ] Have you got the right book?

Magic can be used for practically anything. [He examines the book more closely.] But I don't think that all magic is strictly compatible with my own.

Your magic is wonderful, Merlin. [ Even if she isn't too sure about his fire magic. It scares her. ]

I wish we were in Camelot, Fina. Then I could show you some truly spectacular things.

More spectacular than flying?

[ Okay, maybe it was more like hovering, but it still delighted her all the same. ]

As spectacular as a dragon.

... A dragon?

Oh, he's mostly harmless. Uther has him chained beneath the castle.

I suppose it is. [Merlin had felt sympathy for the dragon--once, a while ago. That feeling was fast fleeting.]
