Blind Date Gone Awry - [acidic_dent]

Gilda Gold checked her watch and sighed. It was 7:45. “He might be a little late,” Barbara had said, laughing a bit. Gilda had promised herself she’d wait a half hour. Forty-five minutes? Meant she’d been stood up.

But she didn’t want to go home. Her mom and dad would want to know how things had gone. Forty-five minutes was long enough to know that this lawyer wasn’t showing up, but it wasn’t long enough for a date. She flagged down the waitress and smiled.

“I think I’m going to move to the bar,” she told the woman. “You can open this table up.” While the restaurant wasn’t the sort that was ‘reservation only,’ it commanded a sizeable wait time on a Friday evening. She smiled at the waitress and got up, taking one of the open seats at the bar area.

At the bar, Gilda ordered a glass of wine. She wasn’t a heavy drinker by any stretch, and she hadn’t planned on drinking at all tonight. Still, she felt entitled to one glass of wine now. She ordered an appetizer as well. Might as well eat something, especially if she was going to have a drink.

Gilda’s food arrived about ten minutes later, and she sipped her glass of wine. She’d requested the bartender hold it back until she had her food. Just because her blind date hadn’t shown up-which, really, it was a blind date, maybe that was a good thing-didn’t mean she couldn’t enjoy herself.
