[Marion tossed the pebble in the air to check how easy it would be to throw. Once he decided it was good, he threw it across the lake, making it skip once, twice, thrice... four times. Eh, good enough.

He looked over his shoulder to glance at his friend Claudine. Over the years they've known each other, he had learned to treat Claudine like a man, ( Read more... )

[Sitting there with his knees drawn towards his chest, he watched the blonde boy with his skipping stone. Chocolate pools traced the ripples in the water until it sank, before glancing to the face of his friend.] "It's been quite a while. With you leaving shortly, I wonder how long it will be until we meet once more."

[He didn't mean to sound so cold. It wasn't his intention. A small smile could be traced towards the corners of his lips as he spoke. He had grown very fond of Marion from an early on in their friendship. Marion was smart, and they shared some of the same views. Deciding to have a picnic at the lake had been a mutual agreement - perhaps a long time staple in their knowing of each other.

Tilting his head back, he gazed up at the white clouds slowly skittering by. The sky was a pale blue, a soft breeze carrying through the trees in the distance. Perfect weather to fly a kite, if they had brought one.] "I wonder... what the end of summer will bring for the both of us."

[Marion didn't take it as something offensive. He knew what he meant, so he decided to supply him with a decent answer.]

Once I leave, it's 10 months and 4 days, I assume, unless I decide to stay with mother dearest for Christmas.

[Marion looked at the sky, sighing.]

I have no idea. I wish you could go to school with me. I've had it with those irrational classmates of mine.

[Listening to the other blonde, he seemed to mentally count along with him. Ten months... would be a very long time. Even though the length of time never changed, each time Marion left, time seemed to stretch when they were apart.

Glancing to his friend, he watched where the blue orbs fell. The sky... if only they were as free to roam as the birds were. Marion had his obligations to his parents and academy. He didn't want to even consider his position. He was still stuck in the cross roads. He wanted to further his studies at a prestigious university no matter the cost.

After a comfortable silence passed, he shifted. Stretching his legs out in front of him, he placed the book he'd been marking with his digit onto the blanket. He wouldn't mind if time stopped for the two of them. Right now, in this moment, there was nothing more he could ask for.

Staring at his friends visage, the smile across his lips deepened.] "If things don't work out with your Mother, you could always come back. I'd take you in."

[Marion chuckled at the idea, picking up another stone to skip. He wouldn't mind living with Claudine, to be honest. He was smart, rich, sensible, beautiful... heck, if he believed in love (which he didn't, mind you), he wouldn't mind falling for someone like him.]

Sounds like a plan. I'm not sure how well your brothers would take it, but I wouldn't mind~

[He threw the stone across the water again. Oh, that was one more skip than before!]

[Hearing Marion's words seemed to physically brighten his visage. It started with a glimmer within the depths of those warm chocolate orbs, spreading all the way down to his lips and to his knees, where he found himself holding one in a conscious effort to not run over and tackle the blonde.

He continued to look at Marion, as if he was the one that made the world turn, a beat skipping within his chest. If there was a possibility, he would do anything it took to get Marion to return.

Leaning slightly forward, he draped an arm across the top of his knees, smiling to himself now, almost as if in a dream.] "My Father wouldn't mind either. We could ride across the country together. There's an extra one kept in the stable. Rosemarie has gotten better over the years, but..."

[Here, he took pause. Had he almost said too much? He quickly glanced towards he friend, before redirecting his gaze towards a blade of grass that became absolutely fascinating!] "What I meant to say, was we could remain as we are now. Unchanged. Together."

[After getting bored of looking for pebbles, Marion lied down next to Claudine and resting his head on his arm, turning his gaze to the sky, but he obviously wasn't paying attention. Instead he looked more pensive. Rosemarie... the name was familiar.

...Oh. It was that girl. He shook his head, the previous smile returning.]

Sounds lovely. I happen to be a good equestrian.

[It was a skill he developed in their school. He noticed Claudine's gaze turn to the blade of grass, so he shot him a worried look... well, the best he could muster, at least. What Claudine said made him smile, though. Adulthood and changes... scared him. He couldn't find anything wrong with just staying the way they were.]

...I'd like that.

[Claudine glanced back at the blonde, finding himself nodding subconsciously as the boy spoke. He enjoyed listening to Marion's opinions, the soft but highly dignified tone in his young voice.

Stretching his arms, he supported his body with them as he looked back up to the beautiful summer sky. It was moments like these he wanted to treasure forever. If there was anything he had come to appreciate about his friend, it was Marion's silent acceptance of him, as a person ( ... )

[Marion was watching Claudine's expressions; blank, silent gratitude, pensive (...sadness?), and finally, something he never saw in Claudine's eyes before. It was familiar, though. Admiration? But they looked at themselves as equals. Gratitude? If it were that, then what was it directed to? Besides, it was different than the earlier one. So what was it?

...Love? No. Claudine would never...

He wanted to slap himself for being silly. He didn't want anything to change between them. Changes were unpleasant and different.

Uncomfortable with the weird stare he got, he sat up and flipped his hair, chuckling at Claudine.]

You're looking at me like I'm the town belle.

[He couldn't help but point that out. Although, anyone would admit that he was prettier than her.]

[A look of surprise crossed his features, instantly becoming aware of situation developing. Was it his doing? He blinked, the confusion perplexing his mind for a few moments, down casting his gaze towards the grassy blades.

What was going on? Only moments ago, things had seemed so peaceful, timeless even. He could feel deep guilt and sadness starting to blossom from deep within his chest. Perhaps it was wrong to let his most inner thoughts turn in that direction. Closing his eyes, he mentally sighed. Love was a complicated thing. Understanding others was even far more complex.

He wondered if he should open his mouth. No matter how he phrased it, the topic might set Marion into a distant state and that's not what he wanted.] "...Marion, do you genuinely disregard relationships between two individuals?"

[Marion looked offended. They've talked about this before, didn't they?]

Of course. It's filthy and irrational. You may have had your romantic episodes, and I respect that, but myself?

Pfft. I refuse to involve myself with anyone, especially women. They reek of cosmetics.

[He didn't bother apologizing for that. They've already agreed that Claudine was, indeed, a man even though he was biologically female. Upon acceptance of that fact, he figured that he was free to whine about women without Claudine taking any offense in it.]

[Claudine found himself nodding solemnly at the words. He'd heard them all before, but he needed to hear them again. Most importantly, to make the right decision, in the here and now. Treading further could severely damage their well established friendship and that was risky. It wasn't the first time he'd found himself caught by unrequited love and he was sure it wouldn't be the last.

Pushing himself into the up right sitting position, he draped one arm over his kneecaps in thought. Eyes still down cast, taking a thoughtful gaze, he wavered before acknowledging Marion's face once more.] "Then you would also have such reserves about a man, correct?"

[Marion looked pensive. Well, of course he did, since the very idea made him snort in disgust, but still... the question itself was odd. He has never thought of being in a relationship, especially with a man, so he was caught off-guard.]

Of course.

[The answer seemed firm enough, but there was a hint of naivety to it, like his entire belief of the idea of "Rationalism".]

[This wasn't good. With Marion so firmly set in his beliefs, there wasn't a way to persuade him to think otherwise, until he himself had experienced a romantic relationship with another human being. As natural as the thought seemed, he found himself wondering if Marion would ever allow such a situation to ever happen.

He vaguely wondered if trying a more philosophical approach would make the situation any less uncomfortable. Agreeing it was worth a shot, he breathed a sigh to clear his head. Glancing towards the blonde, he tried to appear more wistful than before.] "It's said one can't truly understand what they love or hate until they have experienced both sides of the field. Your contempt towards women is sited from emotional experience, but what about males? What have they done to be thought of so lowly in your eyes?"

[Marion considered the question. They did... nothing, of course. He was friendly with males. Every person that he had been closed to was a guy. He didn't know his father that well, so he had nothing against him.]

Nothing, of course...

[But to be in a relationship with one? It was unthinkable! Why? He didn't know, but something about it just seemed off and weird, considering it would be a fruitless love.]

...but love is irrational.

[He figured this sort of response would be the one he'd receive. Looping another arm around his kneecap, he closed his eyes. He couldn't help the small smirk that crossed his lips.] "So regardless of gender, the exchange of emotions and the physical touching is wrong? Would it be that you consider the very act of loving someone to be immoral then?"

[He wasn't intentionally trying to stir up a fight, but he wanted to know. There was something about the way Marion's facial expressions and voice inflections, when coupled together, he couldn't resist.]

[Marion scowled. It looked more like a childish pout than anything, though. For him, the answer was obvious enough, so the question seemed unnecessary.]

Yes, it's wrong. Not in the sense that it's immoral, but in the sense that it's irrational. Look at the very idea of romance! Giving yourself to another person, doing anything for them... it's like you're being hypnotized. It's giving up judgment.

And I won't stand for that.
