...is one of the songs Pete Seeger sang at Hugh's Room on Sunday evening.
Went with
mvt,
sposter, and
sexybass. Pete Seeger appeared with his grandson Tao Rodriguez-Seeger and Guy Davis. Sylvia Tyson and Ken Whiteley were in the audience and they each helped with a song. Seeger also sang "If I Had a Hammer" and "English is English is Cur-ray-zee", among other things. Guy Davis did this weird thing with a harmonica that simulated a barnyard full of animals (plus a train). Tao Rodriguez taught the audience a Spanish folk song.
The concert was a benefit for
Seeds of Survival, a project by the Unitarian Service Committee of Canada to help farmers in the third world cope with global rising food prices.
Merle bought a bunch of CDs. Merle and Tom both got Sylvia Tyson's autograph, though they couldn't get Seeger's.
(For those of you not into folk, Seeger is also known for writing songs such as "Guantanamera", "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine", "We Shall Overcome", "Where Have All the Flowers Gone", and many othes.) He was sentenced to one year in jail for contempt of Congress because he asserted his First Amendment right to freedom of association in front of the House Committee on Un-American Affairs in 1955.)
