I've recommended to the Torcon surplus funds committee a reduced grant to Ad Astra. I expect my recommendation to be rejected, though it could be a close vote.
If we decide not to give money to Ad Astra, my recommendation is to send this money as pass-along funds to Nippon 2007. (We are already well above the required 50%.) However, there may be a legal issue in disbursing funds to out-of-country organizations in the closing of the corporation; we're getting an opinion on that.
If we don't give to either of the above, my recommendation is to send this money as an additional grant to the John Millard Fund of the Friends of the Merril Collection, so that the Friends can obtain more items for the library.
Several other groups have made requests that are being considered. There isn't a huge amount of money left, though we should be able to do a little bit of good. Any official announcement would be weeks from now and not come from me, I am only documenting my own recommendations.
