Mission: Write

Feb 01, 2011 13:16

I have decided that, since I have squirrel-like concentration and that I'm rather annoyed with myself for my lack of dedication to updating my stories or at least producing new ones, I am going to impose a quota on myself.

As you know, NaNo requires 50K words in one month, but I'm going to borrow that concept for a more regular regimen. Here's what I'm going for:

January: 25K words, 807 per diem
February: 40K words, 1429 per diem
March: 25K words, 807 per diem
April: 25K words, 834 per diem
May: 40K words, 1291 per diem
June: 25K words, 834 per diem
July: 25K words, 807 per diem
August: 40K words, 1291 per diem
September: 25K words, 834 per diem
October: 25K words, 807 per diem
November: 75K words, 2500 per diem
December: 25K words, 807 per diem

Is this certifiably nuts? Hellz yeah, it is, but I found that I rose to the challenge in November, completing 50.5K in 21 days, and that was even with a good number of days in which I did practically nothing. I'm tired of finding excuses not to write, because I was far happier with my day when I was cranking out 4-5K and tuning out the world. With this game plan, I will have an attainable goal every day, with 'busy months' inserted every 3 months and the Big Kahuna once a year. I simply didn't find 50K as challenging as it should have been, so why not shoot for something that I may not even make? It becomes a true goal when I'm not sure I'll even make it.

I think this could go a long way in keeping me from having 'lazy days' when I don't even look at Word, which bothers me and frankly robs me of sleep. I need that feeling of accomplishment to keep me motivated, and I don't want to the little bit of focus my addled, absentee brain can muster.

If I'm being completely insane, feel free to tell me so. If you think the idea has merit, feel free to incorporate the idea in some fashion yourself. I'll update here and there to show my progress.
