My aunt Jeannie is visiting from California, and she told a funny story over dinner tonight. Around the time she started college she was walking around the campus when she saw someone who she recognized from high school, a boy in her graduating class. They stopped and chatted a bit, just casual conversation. She wasn't close with him, but she felt it would have been rude to just ignore him. A few days later he called her up. Here's the dialogue:
Guy: Hey Jeanne, how are you?
Jeannie: Not bad, you?
Guy: Fine. Will you do my laundry?
Jeannie: (Pause). Why would I do your laundry? I don't even want to do my own laundry.
Guy: Yeah but I have someone would do the ironing, so can you wash my clothes?
Jeannie: I don't even want to do my laundry, so why would I do yours, again?
Guy: I have someone who will iron them.
Pretty good, I think. Pretty good. WOMEN=LAUNDRY. This guy didn't even really know her, but women wash clothes, right?
