I can't imagine Hermione ever getting pregnant accidentally; this is Hermione after all and she's too bright to take that sort of chance, honestly. If I don't mention it in some of my smut fics, it's because I'm operating under the assumption (in my world) that all girls who are at that certain age start taking it to 'regulate their courses' and make their lives easier-- and really, they're witches, you really think that sort of birth control to make their lives easier isn't one of the first magical things they invented?

As for this fic, I don't think it's that unusual of a take. Hermione doesn't strike me as one of those girls who grew up always wanting kids and a family, so I can see her hesitating and not being sure. Harry, somehow, I've always been convinced will want kids sooner because of how he was brought up and his lack of family and all that; he's always envied Ron his family so I imagine Harry would leap at the chance to start his own-- just NOT with Ginny. EVER. (I refuse to accept the idea of there even being a possibility of Weasley-Potter kids. Ugh. *shudders* No, no, no, the only kids that are allowed are Granger-Potter kids.)
