Drabble the twelfth
I will try my damnedest to have an H/Hr Christmas drabble ready to post tomorrow.

The Mistletoe Trick
Christmas had come to Hogwarts. Mistletoe once again appeared, floating above everyone’s heads in the Great Hall.
James smiled as he saw a familiar red head come into view and then a minute later she saw him and flashed a quick smile at him.
And though James would sooner pay Snape a compliment than admit it out-loud, he couldn’t help the small flare of warmth in his chest on seeing her smile at him. After so many years of having her frown at him, or glare at him or just ignore him altogether, seeing her smile at him and know that she was his now was one of his greatest joys. Besides, he did love her smile so much, loved the way it lit up her green eyes.
On that thought, he had a sudden impulse and, as usual, gave in to it.
He caught Lily’s eye again and gestured for her to come closer. She did, after a quick word to Alice Norton.
“Good morning, James.”
“Hi,” he grinned. “Come here. I want to show you something.”
She closed the distance between them in a few small steps. “What--” she began but he cut her off by reaching out and gently tugging her to him and kissing her, his lips lingering on hers until she kissed him back, her lips parting. Her kiss, her taste, was so familiar to him by now but it never failed to thrill him, never failed to set his heart to racing. God, he loved kissing her…
He ended the kiss leisurely to become conscious that Sirius ws making mock gagging noises and that they’d managed to attract the attention of at least half the student body.
Everyone knew of course that the Head Boy and Girl were dating but most of them had never seen Lily and James touch other than casually, let alone kiss in public-until now.
Lily blushed scarlet as she glanced around. “What was that for?” she asked, stepping back from him slightly.
James grinned, pointing upwards. “Mistletoe,” he said simply. “I wanted to get you under it so I could kiss you.”
She raised her eyebrows a little. “You know you don’t need to trick me or catch me under mistletoe to kiss me.”
His smile softened slightly. “I know but I wanted to kiss you under the mistletoe because of all the times I plotted how to get you under mistletoe in these past couple years.”
Lily opened her mouth to speak but before she could, Sirius inserted, “He’s not kidding, you know. He used to come up with all sorts of absolutely barmy plans to try to catch you under mistletoe so he could kiss you. There were times Moony and I nearly had to Stupefy him just to get him to shut up.”
Lily shook her head a little but the slight smile tugging at the corner of her lips belied the action. “You really are an idiot sometimes,” she told James.
He gave her his most beguiling grin. “Yes but you love me anyway.”
Lily rolled her eyes. “You’re hopeless.”
James’ pout in response to that made Sirius and Remus hoot with laughter and Lily give in to the smile threatening to spread across her face.
“You really are silly,” she said softly and then, stepping closer, raised herself up on her toes to whisper into his ear, “but I love you anyway” and brushed her lips against his cheek.
She was gone before he could react, moving away to find her friends, leaving James to stare after her with what he knew to be an idiotic grin on his face but he couldn’t help it. She loved him and she’d said so. She’d never said as much before and he’d been angling to try to make her say the words for weeks now and she’d finally said them. She loved him… And even though he’d been pretty sure of it for weeks now, it still did- something- to his insides, his heart, to hear the words.
She loved him and she’d said so.
He felt like he could easily fly without the aid of a broom, like he had just single-handedly won the Quidditch Cup for Gryffindor, like he could fight a dragon without his wand and still come out on top. He felt like the luckiest fellow in the world; no, he was the luckiest fellow in the world.
Lily loved him.
This was, he decided, the best Christmas ever.
