hey all,
well, the food here is still not agreeing with me, but nevertheless, i went out last night and had a really good time. first we went to a restaurant because it's our program director's birthday. i mostly ate a bunch of pistacios, fruit, and bok choy. then, we all headed out to a techno club. It was actually a lot of fun. we got our own table, since there were so many of us, and then consumed massive amounts of jack daniels and beer. and danced a lot. after two chinese club experiences in two seperate cities i can now say with a certainty that, as a whole, chinese people have no sense of rythm. none.
after the partying last night, we actually got to sleep in this morning. it's the first time we've been able to sleep in since we were in shanghai. today we have a free day so i've been doing grocery shopping in preperation for the 24 hour train ride tomorrow, oh, and the 4 hour bus ride before that. i'm going to be spending 28 hours in moving vehicles tomorrow (and the day after). at least it's not an airplane though.
last night the club we went to was actually sort of in the red light district. interesting fact: the "red light" district is actually a pink light district. Pink neon lights in the front inner room of a building indicate that it's a whore house. we probably saw at least a dozen during the cab ride back from the club. one of our program directors told the story of how a couple years ago there were some guys who came on the trip and picked up prostitutes nearly every night. that just seems really not okay.
well, tomorrow we go to xian, so it'll be fun to be somewhere different. from here on out we're not spending more that about a week at any given place.
