We realized that the little pail of quick-set cement wasn't going to be enough. We also found a 50 lb bag of concrete mix in the garage, so we used that.
A small sledge hammer opened up the holes. One new hole that we hadn't noticed before, and a second hole made by combining the two I mentioned before. We used about half the bag of concrete. Ruth Anne was in charge of the final smoothing.
In moving stuff around to make this all happen, we noticed that hungry hungry critters had been busier than we thought. Many pretzels and trail mix were consumed, as well as some dry soup mix. Most things from the downstairs pantry were either tossed or brought upstairs, and poison rat traps are now in place in the four corners of the basement. My guess is that no one is living in our basement, but rather they dine out in our fancy facilities, and then return home to their burrow after dinner. The traps should show me if my guess is wrong.
