[ Sometimes it's hard to forgive yourself. The world cries out for a savior, but who saves the savior from himself? He can save everyone, but one person dies and you think it's the end. If you can't save them all, you can't save any. Survivor's guilt? Is that the term they would have used? Cloud felt left behind. He felt like death was a reunion he wasn't entitled to. Zack... Aerith... They'd been together, hadn't they? They were certainly together now, and doing nothing short of miracle work whenever they could. Curing Geostigma, helping him from beyond that impassable stream of the afterlife that she had said... 'wasn't his place yet'. ]
How do you redeem yourself to someone who's already forgiven you...? How can she forgive me if I couldn't forgive myself...?
[ He shakes his head. What good will it do to worry? Death was just an undeniable part of Cloud's past. There was blood on his hands, obviously; plenty of it, and not all of it human. What if he turned away for a moment and lost someone else? What would he do then? Was he destined to battle shadows of old enemies and suffer fatal wounds that would take him to them, only to be sent away at redemption's doorstep, back to the world that lacked her smile? her laughter, her tears? Cloud knew life was a gift, but what kind of world gave you a gift and then took it away before you could really enjoy it? No matter how he approached it... He could only blame one person, but one he had remembered as a sane man driven to madness by something the Planet had never been prepared for. And the man responsible for loosing that evil... ]
They're all gone. After the damage is done, everyone is gone, anyways.
