I took a lunch-time trip to the store with the kosher section today, to get other stuff actually, and was greeted at the front by the Kosher for Passover section! Egads! I did not prepare a shopping list for this section! I passed by the regular kosher section and the guy who takes care of that area was there, and I commented "yup, it's after Purim, only 3.5 more weeks! I'm not prepared to buy this stuff yet!" He commented back, "Well, you better buy this stuff soon because some things won't be restocked." Oh great, way to put on the pressure, dude! Are all the Jews flocking to the store before Sunday to grab their favorites?! (I am totally going to go to the store tomorrow at lunch specifically to grab a few things from these sections.)
I had hoped that I'd written down the list of things in the Passover boxes, because I know I stashed a few pantry items in there. Pretty sure I have a jar of apple cinnamon jam, and possibly some oil. I honestly can't recall if I stashed spices this time: I have in the past, but I also told myself "spices are inherently KP, why store them?" I might need to open the boxes and take a peek, or possibly look in 1-2 places where I might have actually physically written it down. I know, it's a wonder I have and hand-writing skills left. It would almost be amusing to revive my cursive and improve upon it - Benito and I could write each other notes! Oy.
My shul is offering to deliver a seder meal! For $50, you get a seder plate and a meal (I am assuming it's per person). It's a good meal: chicken soup with knaidelach, tsimmes, potato kugel, apple kugel-type thing, either turkey&cranberry or honey dill salmon, and I think I'm missing 1-2 things, maybe salad and/or gefilte fish. If I lived alone I would strongly consider it - no, I would probably do it. However, it's 3 at my seder; that's $150, and for that much I could buy what I need for the holiday myself, and spend time on it instead of more money. I have evenings, I have lunch-times, and I'm taking Friday before the holiday off to do final preparations. One will need to be completely done with shopping by Friday noon, to have shabbat, and then go right into the holiday.
The rabbi will also be leading a synagogue Zoom second seder. I haven't spoken to all of my family yet regarding family s'darim, as we did last year. Will there be enough interest in 2 seders with family, or are synagogues more prepared now and some/many/all of us will have community things to join? Will Tahl herself be required to lead something? In conversation with Aunt Judy today, she dropped that Tahl will actually be with my parents this year. Whuhu? I guess I'll have to ask her about that - all 3 of them are immunized (I think Tahl needs her 2nd dose still but it's been stalled) so her going to them isn't actually risky, so that's good.
I wish Ilan could come up here. It would be so great to have him and Deb around. I would need them to sleep at the hotel, or ... yeah, hotel - I can't volunteer Carmen for this, and heaven forbid I even suggest that they sleep here. We have ZERO room for guests. Y'know, I'd be terribly entertained if they got a hotel room and I stayed with them a few nights. Heh, funny.
I have a few gorgeous cookbooks. I should see if there are any new recipes that are KP that I could try out, either before or during the holiday. That sounds like a fun activity, both the searching and the making.
