Gottacon, food planning, and what not to think about.

Having signed the document and paid the deposit to have the wedding ceremony and reception at a hotel in town, I am telling myself to not think about wedding planning this week. I find myself looking at the topic, mentally, and letting it be [over there] for now. This is okay.

This weekend is Gottacon, a gaming convention in Victoria. We're heading over with friends on Friday mid-day, and I think the gaming starts at 5 PM. A food plan was made by others, and I was brought in and asked if I would rather pay only half of the food share if a bunch of the food wasn't going to work for me. I'm happy to pay in, because I think a majority of it will be fine, but I also want to bring stuff to supplement. I should be getting the food list emailed to me today.

The larger group of us attending are car-pooling down to 2 vans, primarily because the stupid ferry to get from the mainland to Vancouver Island is $47.25 plus $14.25 per person, including driver. So, for 2 people in 1 car, it's $75.75, and for 4 people in 1 car it's $104.25. Therefore, car-pooling makes sense. However, if, for instance, some of us want to go to sleep at 2 AM, and some want to go to sleep at 4 AM, whoever doesn't want to go to sleep by 4 AM stays at the convention until someone else wakes up and comes back to get them. This is a little bit amusing, but I wonder if it will be on Saturday night. Eh, who knows: a bunch of folks stayed up all night Saturday last year playing Talisman, and I think that's the plan again this year. If all else fails, I will go to sleep sitting on the floor leaning against the wall. *shrug*

In other news, I've been to Costco before and not called it a "big food run." I didn't think that the trip to Costco this week was going to be a big food run, but the bill indicates otherwise. I bought a lot of frozen fish (where "a lot" is simply 3 different kids of fish, but in packs of >8 pieces each), Greegan's lunches for about two weeks, Annie's mac&cheese (for $.50 more, it's worth it to try them out again over Kraft), tuna, and Clif bars, plus a few other things that brought the total items to 11. I would like to not spend money on anything other than fresh veggies and milk, perhaps 1 bag of shredded cheese, for the next two weeks. Oh, and we need butter (for baking as well as the mac&cheese).

I made totally delicious buttermilk scones the other day, using plain yogurt instead of buttermilk! Brilliant! Buttermilk issue solved! Why make 1 c of buttermilk to use 2 T when I can use the plain yogurt I have in abundance? I made banana pb chocolate chip scones, and they are awesome. I might do it again for the weekend, but use nuts instead of pb chips. Then again, I also have frozen blueberries, so I could banana blueberry scones, as well as a choc chip and (something else dessert-like) batch. Hmmmmm... it becomes a question of time. We'll see.

Oh yes: last night, I killed perfectly fine mac&cheese by adding garlic salt, when I should've just added garlic powder. Ah well. I will find enough things to add to it to dilute the salt, or I'll just let Greegan have it for lunch or dinner since he thought it was fine. *shrug*
