purple can be a good match with green

Despite the fact that I am living like a NEET these past few months, my life is kinda messed up. Okay maybe "messed up" is not the right word. I just think that my life is not moving forward. Like... nothing important is happening. And I'm not sure if that is supposed to be how it goes?

I mean, I really should be applying for a job, but certain factors are preventing me "at the moment" so I'm taking it easy before I can actually do it.

What exactly have I been doing this vacation?

Aside from playing Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (wherein I'm HR6 and trying to get key quests to fight Alatreon, Akantor, Ukanlos and Amatsu), nothing much. Basically just reading BL, going to friends' places to hang out, watching movies, and working part-time...

Maybe having too much free time is messing with my head.
Is it harder to live when you're bored than when you're busy?

Anyway, to get rid of some of my boredom, I...

Started reading Kuroko no Basuke!

I was trying to watch some of the new spring anime and encountered this one and Tsuritama. I found KuroBasu interesting so I read the manga and fell in love with it.

It may seem like I'm jumping on the bandwagon, but not really. KuroBasu is indeed getting more popular recently, but its English-speaking fandom is still pretty small. Moreover, there is a lot of bashing and comparison because it's basketball-related. Actually, the Chinese fandom is probably more active than the English one. There's suddenly like a ton of posts regarding KuroBasu in Weibo and Baidu that it surprised me. Not that I started liking it because of that, though.

To be honest, I didn't expect a lot from the series.
Based from the art, I expected a lot of fanservice, a shallow storyline and probably simple characters. The fanservice certainly did not disappoint, but as for the storyline and the characters...

Well, the plot is linear, which is to be expected of a sports-related series. After all, the ultimate goal is to win (in a tournament) but... Kuroko no Basuke, as the title implies, is actually more about Kuroko's way of playing basketball than the actual winning streak. The title "the basketball which Kuroko plays" refers to two things: 1) Kuroko's style of playing which involves passes, assists, etc.; and 2) Kuroko's values incorporated in basketball like having fun, engaging in team play, working hard, etc.

I love reading it.
Many people may compare it to Slam Dunk (and I did too, at the beginning), but there's not a lot of similarities between them besides the basketball elements. Slam Dunk focused more on the basics of basketball, and Hanamichi's struggle to learn the sport as he overcame new hardships, enemies and whatnot. KuroBasu allotted more room for individual character growth and drama elements (without losing the comedy, of course), making basketball the "medium" where they all meet and interact. I think the plot would've worked if the sport wasn't basketball (as long as it's a team sport), but I dunno if that's a good thing.

Personally, I like how the characters of KuroBasu have a discerning trait (drawn) -- whether it's the eyes, the eyebrows, the mouth, or whatever -- the author makes it a point to differentiate them. Moreover, their personalities are as colorful as the hair colors of the Generation of Miracles, LOL.

Also, I've been reading the manga online with slow internet, so it really adds to the tension sometimes. HAHA

As for the "realistic" nature of the series, well it's kinda like Prince of Tennis. The techniques aren't as ridiculous, but you get the idea. Hardcore basketball fans may be offended (?) but for people like me who care more about character development, it doesn't matter.

Of course, I'm not gonna lie and say I read it purely for the shounen-ness, because I do read it for the fanservice. I believe the Generation of Miracles basically make up Kuroko's harem, but they each found a partner for themselves after separating in high school. I still like seeing Kuroko interact with his former teammates, though. It would be nice to put them in a team again just to see how they would work (and pair ♥) together.

Right now, I'm fond of Midorima for some unknown reason. I have my reasons for liking Kuroko and Teppei, but Midorima just kinda grew on me. It must be the lower lashes, after all. XD

P.S. My computer broke down and I can't access my files! I also have no access to Photoshop at the moment, so I can't edit any manga/doujinshi for now. >_<
Hopefully I'll get it fixed before July.
