I must admit, Reborn has bored me recently.
But it wasn't always like that.
Millefiore Arc started okay -- the mystery surrounding the world 9 years and 10 months later got everyone hyped up and interested, especially about the TYL appearances of the characters. This was fueled even more when Mukuro showed up in Chapter 168 after revealing he was Leonardo Lippi (Guido Greco). At that point, it was only natural that the series would reach its peak. Reborn was looking great, ratings were high, and ReboCon plus the ReboRaji were very popular. Well, that was until Genkishi showed up and ruined the series with his eyebrows. I don't seem to remember having any spirit about Reborn then. I sometimes would forget to read recent chapters and would pretend I have read them when my friends talked to me about them.
When the Melone Base sub-arc ended however, there was a massive shitstorm going on because of the sudden twist. After being dragged out that far and surviving all those Genkishi chapters, who wouldn't be surprised? The shitstorm carried on to the following chapters about TYL!Varia, which had their own twist, before it died down in the 10-day "rest" chapters. Truth be told, it was only this time that I started blogging about Reborn seriously again. Those "rest" chapters not only reminded me of the "daily-arc" feeling but it also relieved me from all the fighting. I want to get the whole arc over with, but I'm pretty much happy about the pace of the story.
Things went retarded with all the hologram fetish, pokemons, Byakuran's involvement, and the introduction of the Funeral Wreaths, but...
Now, Target 243 is JUST WAO.
It's... different from the usual Reborn, yet so similar. It's definitely because of Shou-chan. It's very unusual for the characters who once did everything on their own to be led by someone, namely a former enemy -- and it's superbly awesome. Or maybe I'm just fangasming over Shouichi.
Y'know, Shou-chan was pretty boring then. During the Melone Base sub-arc, when all he did was stand and pretend to be cool. But I did ship 10051 then, because I thought their tandem was cute and hot at the same time. Unlike some 10051 shippers who resent Mukuro for being a rival in Byakuran's heart, I like Shouichi. I don't see him as a "rival" and even though there would be subtle hints about Byakuran and Shouichi's interaction back then, whether it's about Choice, or Shouichi working genuinely for Byakuran, or Shouichi influencing Byakuran's "change", I never really disliked Shou-chan.
He's a nice guy and I now ship him with Spanner because guys working on motorbikes together is just gay. (WAIT, EXCLUDE GIANNINI) And I do like the fact that Shouichi is willing to get Byakuran killed, but is hesitant about Spanner. Although of course it may be because Byakuran is taking over the world and all, compared to Spanner who never really did anything wrong by being a weeaboo. Besides, they knew each other outside the mafia. That in itself is pretty slash-worthy cool.
Going back, the fanservice has increased recently too. First with the bath chapter, that D18 in 242 and the 8059 in 243. 10069 is next. Tsuna is also back to being as awesome as he is, and I last saw this during his battle with King Mosca, because his fight with Genkishi was a bit... I dunno, naked. (LOL, naked sequence) Tsuna was technically fighting him in a pinch since he was barely trained, so it didn't seem like a real fight.
Now, he's facing yet another foe with a Mist attribute. I.. I can't wait for 244!
Wao, it's been such a long time since I said something like this. XD
Oh, and the Cervello are back. YAY, I can cosplay them again~

Finally finished Tales of the Abyss (anime)~

>> The Luke-Asch quarrel ended too peacefully. I expected more swearing from a very grumpy Asch who kept on contradicting himself. Poor Asch, he only wanted to assure himself that he was significant somehow.
This scene reminded me of the manga, and I can't help but laugh at the resemblance. Asch never changes, huh. In face, in attitude and in speech, LOL. XDDD
>> Another scene with Peony and his most beloved rappig, Jade. Too bad it didn't include Peony naming one of his rappigs Luke.
25
>> The anime totally changed Luke's meeting with Asch. Now, it's a lot less funnier.
Asch was supposed to fall down first, not together with Luke.
Then we'll hear this line, "House Fabre must have very stupid genes. Even my replica fell into the same trap. Disgusting."
It did, however, retain the line, "Promise me you'll survive. Or Natalia and I.. will never stop grieving." Although it needed a more dramatic execution, LOL.
>> Asch's death is... kind of lame. Compared to the game, I mean. I dunno, everything is basically the same, but there's just something lacking... Perhaps it's because the anime squeezed everything in this episode. By killing off Legretta and Sync at almost the same time as him, it seems less sad.

>> Jade playing with his glasses is just like the game's~ X3
It seems more fitting for anime!Jade though, since game!Jade looks much more mature. (I mean, he's supposed to be 30. O_o)
>> FANGASMING OVER INDIGNATION AS ALWAYS.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS, ARGH.
>> What is this sudden Luke/Jade?
And the art here is gorgeous. LOL, if the anime was willing to take it this far, it must've included that Jade-Luke parting sequence (before Tower of Rem) from the game. That one was gay.
>> FUCKYEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH THE ANIME RETAINED THAT LUKE/ASCH SCENE IN THE END
ANIME
GAME
Asch looks more dead in the game, LOL.
>> So... is it Luke in Asch's body? It sounded definitely like Asch, but it has Luke's memory. Or could they have.. merged? It was more dramatic in the anime, I'm surprised. And that thing with Jade again.. it happened in the game too.
Ending theme
>> PEONY ♥
Not only does he have a special scene in the last few minutes of the show, he's got a spot in the ending too~ Peony is SO LOVED. X3
>> LOLOLOLOLOLOL DIST
I still can't believe that he's the only God-General who lived.
Also, that image with Jade in the ending is a bit... well, gay. Just what you'd expect from Dist. XD
>> No Cecile and Frings?
I thought that was strange, since Noelle, Ginji, even Iemon and the others were in the ending.
Overall
I'll keep this short. The pace was all right, the anime did well in squeezing the most important events in a 26-episode anime. It felt a bit rushed sometimes, but it didn't ruin the story. Some other important scenes were omitted, but that's the advantage of playing the game. In my opinion, it didn't need much background to understand the plot, at least. The animation has its ups and downs, but it wasn't too bad.
Although I seem to be complaining about a lot of the Luke/Asch related stuff, it's just my fujoshi self typing. The anime was great, I'm glad they kept it loyal to the game.
Now, I need to get my hands on that XBOX360 and play Vesperia.
