True Grit, recap and reaction, spoilers under the cut.

This is not a movie review, it's recap and a reaction (and spoilers will abound). I admit I’ve never seen the original version of True Grit all the way through, though I have seen Roster Cogburn (mostly because Katherine Hepburn was in it)
that being said, I do recommend the new movie, highly. )

Psshaw! Give that man a bath and a shave (and maybe another bath) and he wouldn't be half bad.

He would have to wash his get some new long-johns. And another bath, possibly a flea bath.

I love Rooster for his good qualities (And have you noticed how much cleaner he seemed on the trail then in town?) but I have to draw the line at that long underwear of his.

I agree. I think Rooster saw in Mattie what he would have liked to have seen in his own child.

And speaking of little Cogburns, I wonder what ever became of Rooster's son?

You know what I realized after I wrote this piece? The reason I felt like I had to keep stressing the nature of Mattie's relationship with Rooster and LeBeef is because this is the first movie I"ve seen in a long time where there were no romantic relationships, hell there aren't even any couples..

As it is I agree, Rooster has half-adopted Mattie as his daughter and half his new partner (something hinted at in the book, Before they leave town he's got her a job offer to clerk in the Marshals office) I suspect, if she hadn't ended up maimed and nearly dead, he'd have kept in touch with her.

We don't hear anything more about Horace in the book then we do in the movie but Rooster does... well you'll have to read the book to see :P
