As a follow-up to
this post where I described the horrendously bad decision by the board of Readercon over a series of incidents of sexual harassment by a big-name fan on an invited guest:
This is how you construct a believable apology. The board members have resigned. The convention committee has issued what should have been the original punishment of a lifetime ban against the harasser, a full apology both to the author who was victimized this year and another victim of the same guy who came forward during the debacle, an apology to all past/present/future attendees of Readercon, and a promise to fully revisit the issue of their harassment policy (I presume with the intent of amending the zero-tolerance part into something a bit more balanced).
I can only hope that their example leads to more awareness of and actions against harassment in fandom settings.
And I am willing to put Readercon back on my bucket list.
