WHY DID YOU HAVE TO TAKE THAT DIRECTING JOB AND LEAVE OOTP TO SOMEONE ELSE?!?!?
OotP is right behind GoF as favorite book because it's huge and packed with events that leapfrog the series from "children's books" to a story with incredible potential for delving into political issues, conflict management, fighting domination, and betrayals. It's also a crescendo of H/Hr interaction, from her flying tackleglomp when he arrives at Grimmauld Place to his blind panic (the only time in the entire series that he's frozen in inaction, I believe?) when she's struck down in the DoM. It could have been the most powerful movie in the series.
And in my opinion it's out of step with the rest of the films. The H/Hr interaction is muted compared to the other films (I'm given to understand that even with Sweet Valley Hogwarts going on that the HBP film has a number of impressive H/Hr interactions...might have to record it on TV when it comes around and fast-forward through the dreck) and pivotal things like Hermione blackmailing Skeeter and the depth of the danger in the DoM are gone completely. I have yet to purchase OotP for our DVD library, because unlike the other films I don't get an urge to see it again...only select scenes.
I can't help but feel that if Kloves had produced the script it would hang better with the rest of the movies and would have been more true to the book.
