Gacked from
kakiphony and done to help me get in the mood.
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Both, but I love hot chocolate more.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Santa wraps, because the presents have to be delivered to a different house every year (right now we rotate between my parents, my inlaws, and our house).
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Colored, definitely.
4. Do you hang mistletoe? Haven't in a long time. My dad used to take his shotgun and shoot down branches while we were hunting our tree in the woods and we'd lay it on the mantle.
5. When do you put your decorations up? We try to decorate sometime between the weekend after Thanksgiving and the first week of December.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Hm. My aunt's spicy sausage balls.
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child: Going out to cut a tree down in the woods on our property. We did this until I was about sixteen, I think.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? What truth is that? Have the elves finally unionized? Is Santa not using 100% organic feed for the reindeer?
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas eve? We did as children. We don't these days because our budget limits us to just a few presents.
10. How do you decorate your christmas tree? We have a totally mongrel tree, with ornaments that have been collected for years. I always hang the silver and gold one I made in first grade. In recet years there have been a few Harry Potter and Charlie Brown ornaments. We use garland instead of tinsel because the cats will eat the tinsel. I hate that. I love tinsel.
11. Snow! Love it or loathe it? I ADORE snow. One of these days I'm going to get tired of global warming and move the family up to a latitude or altitude that guarantees a number of good snowfalls every year.
12. Can you ice skate? I can move around upright. That's about it.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? I've gotten great gifts over the years. The iPod stands out because I was totally not expecting it. That purple bike when I was seven was rad as well.
14. What's the most important thing about the holidays for you? The snatches of feeling that peace on earth, good will toward all is possible.
15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? My dad's Moravian sugarcake.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Wrapping presents beside the tree.
17. What tops your tree? A wizardly-looking fellow in blue and green robes with an open book and a staff.
18. Which do you prefer; giving or receiving? Both.
19. What is your favorite Christmas song? I think "Carol of the Bells" is my absolute favorite, no matter which version it is. But "Linus and Lucy" is up there as well.
20. Candy Canes? Definitely. Love mint. Love love love it.
