Drive Me Crazy

Nov 30, 2005 21:34

OK that is probably the first and last time you'll see me reference a Britney Spears track here, ha! So last night I was out driving minding my own business when....CRASH!

A little background... Yesterday it was raining on and off pretty much all day. After work I met up with Dan, Emily and Dan's friend Chris to watch 'Jesus Is Magic' at the E Street Cinema. Very funny indeed, but now that I look back on it, maybe I laughed too much at the Ethiopian baby joke?

Anyway, after the film I went to Capital City for dinner with Dan and Emily, which was pretty fun. Dan admitted to a crush on the redheaded 'gay' in the film. I so knew he was going to be into him too. I guess that means I don't have a chance? ;-p

So it's pouring down rain when we head out of there, I walk them to Metro Center and head back to my car that was parked around 8th and E St. By the time I get going it's about 8:30 or so and I speak to Xerxes before driving off and decide to hang out before I head home.

I'm on 7th St. and about to make a left onto F St. so I can get to Mass. Ave. The first thing I notice is that this intersection isn't a perfect T configured one, but slightly askew. Now remember it is pouring down rain so I'm being pretty careful and hardly inching out into the intersection.

Then I notice that the cab heading in the opposite direction to me has his indicator on and will be making a left. I figure (like any rational driver would) that it's OK to proceed with my own left turn since I don't notice any cars following close behind him. Oh was that a costly mistake! So the next scene somehow played out in slow motion....

I was part way into my left turn and suddenly it seems that the cab picks up speed and now he isn't turning but head straight in my direction! The next thing I feel is this dull thud and I think my car could have skid a bit, but we were both going slow enough that it wasn't a bad crash at least.

So I pull over to the side, in front of the entrance to the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro and the cab stays in the intersection where he had hit me. Not the best thing to do when it's raining and there's still a steady flow of traffic, but oh well...

Well, the cop came and took control of the situation. Fortunately for me the cabbie was pretty calm throughout, cos you know some of them can get pretty crazy. Unfortunately the cop decided he had to go with the cabbie's version of events and issued me a ticket for $50.00 for 'Not yielding to traffic'. Umm, ok.

Nothing left to do but drive home slightly disgusted, but mostly just annoyed with the bad ending to a fun evening. I guess that ends this news bulletin for now. I'll check back with any and all updates as they occur.
