This curious article on the dwindling Jewish diaspora in China was found in the December 1955 issue of The American Jewish Times:
“...This, in brief, is the story of the dwindling Jewish community in China - a community whose total liquidation is in sight. There were only 679 Jews left in China by the end of June, 1955; 319 in Harbin, 230 in Shanghai and 130 in Tientsin and elsewhere. Of this group, 150 were hard-core cases; 369 held Israel visas; and 60, the visas of other countries. Of the 150 “hard-core” cases, 48 are awaiting transportation to the Malben settlements in Israel or to European homes.”
