Nantao Telephone Exchange (1924)
This is a very nerdy reason to rejoice, but we used to have only this view of the South City Telephone Exchange 上海电话局南市总局 (734 Zhonghua Road // 中华路734号):
...and now we have another angle:
“The Nantao Exchange is housed in a substantial three-storied building, constructed of brick, with floors and staircases of reinforced concrete. The building is situated on Chung Hwa Road, the broad boulevard built on the site of the city walls, near the South Gate. [...] The operating staff is all female, with Chinese ladies as supervisors and chief operators.” (The Far-Eastern Review, v. 20, 1924).
