What can be more satisfying than learning the original names of nameless Shanghai mansions?

Here is Ferryhill House, located at No. 10 Lane 18 Yanqing Lu 延庆路18弄10号. Originally Henry Cumine’s family residence, it was built in 1926 at 64 Route Grouchy. In 1937, it became the Soviet Club and in 1938 Grouchy Sanatorium. Its early history is now told - and shown - in a theatrical life performance Lost in Shanghai, by the Australian journalist Jane Hutcheon, whose mother, Beatrice Greaves, grew up in Shanghai.
