2021:

In the past 8 years, this modest apartment building with Wuzhong district market on the ground floor, went from a tile-clad ugly to this deco-ey coquette, passing through an intermediate iteration with floral grills over the A/C units. Now some wonder if this is a historic building! The vertical logo on the facade announces New Xuhui Shanghai Style Fresh 新徐汇尚上鲜. I hear the market has been revamped but remains in place.

...It's time to introduce a new column on my blog, called "I Don't Recognize Shanghai," or IDRS.
