This alarming criminal trend was reported in August 1934:
Frenchtown Chinese Selling Migrey Gum
The French Poilce have located another alleged violator of the Wrigley Spearmint trade mark in the Concession together with a large quantity of labels. The man is Chao Sing-ze, owner of Shin Kee COmpany, dealing in candy and confectioneries on
Rue Wagner. He was arraigned before Judge Woo in the Second Special District Court yesterday and charged with infringing trade marks. The case was remanded.
Chao was alleged to have manufactured and sold chewing gum bearing the name "Migrey" with wrappings almost same in color and design as Wrigley wrappers. Another dealer* was convicted and sentenced a few days ago for imitating Wrigley gum.
Attorney Allman appeared for the Wrigley Company, an American concern.
____
* That case, again, with Allman representing the American corporation, resulted in two months of jail and $30 fine for the manufacturers of the fake brand gum.
