Can't stop the progress... I guess
The NCDN published this in September 1937: "The Hongkong Peak has come to downtown Shanghai. The Glen Line Building, 2 Peking Road, yesterday morning started providing a sedan chair service for the benefit of tenants and the public who have been deprived of lift service. Above, one of the first patrons to use the chair is seen on his way to the fifth floor. The other view shows the announcement of the management regarding the sedan chair accommodations 'at user's risk.'"
Were the lifts out of service because of the repairs? Or did the flow of customers exceed their capacity? I've not found any answers.
