This is why I rarely go to dentists

I visited the dentist this afternoon and her diagnosis of the health of my teeth made me cringe at least five times.

1) I learned I have gingivitis. She poked my gums lightly and lo, it bled. That is a symptom of gingivitis- bleeding gums.

2) I learned I have at least two impacted wisdom teeth. Impacted meaning they can't get out properly because they're being crowded in by the neighboring teeth. These two teeth need to be extracted. This also goes for my two upper molars.

3) I have to get four molars extracted. That will be one molar per week since recuperation period (length of time before the swelling from the extraction subsides) is 5-7 days.

4) I learned that it is imperative that I get braces. Otherwise, my misaligned teeth will become more misaligned, hard to brush areas will be harder to reach and clean, plaque and cavities will build up and then the eventual tooth decay will follow. That alternative is damning if not downright repulsive so I have to get braces.

5) The braces cost around $2,700. WTF?

So, the dental trip wasn't a happy one but, needs must. And I goddamn need braces and four weeks of recuperation time without work. I need money too. Ahh. I am so dead.
