Ebert, not afraid to lay it out there. Great post.

I haven't seen the movie. Someone else will have to field that one.

It's not bad. I mean it's no Mission to Mars.

Uck! Well, few things are. That may be the faintest praise that can be offered and still count.

To start, I am as much of a Transformers fanboy as you can possibly be and not have named your children after Shockwave.

This movie pissed me off in more ways than I can count. It could have been a fun action movie/popcorn special, but the retarded humping jokes, the stupid pot brownie rampage, the wrecking balls on Devastator (who was not composed of any machine that had wrecking balls to begin with), the terrible Autobot twins, and many other things really ruined what was awesome about the movie. If I could somehow remove the forty-five minutes of juvenile humor, I would have loved this movie. I get it, Transformers was a kids cartoon. That doesn't mean you have to destroy it with humping, farting, ball-swinging robots to get kids to watch it.

The movie did have a few really good things in it (Frank Welker voicing Soundwave, Ravage, and the awesome co-dependant relationship between Megatron and Starscream to name some), but these things were weighed down in the sea of drek that is Michael Bay's teenager-ish sense of humor.

Yeah, after I saw the movie I thought to myself, "Someday, if I got really good at video editing, I could make this into a great action film."

You just summed up almost every complaint I had about the first film. The juvenile humor was probably my least favorite part, followed closely by Michael Bay's idea of women and what men find attractive. Unfortunately, in the case of Megan Fox, he may have won Round One. Me and my unspent $10 won Round Two. :)

And keep in mind, I LIKED the show and the toys and the cartoon movie. But, damn, at some point we deserve better than this.

I'm going to go back and rewatch the first one this afternoon (I won't make April suffer through it), but I don't remember it being nearly as juvenile. I know there were a couple stupid scenes (John Tuturro's thong [makes a cameo in "Fallen"], Bumblebee "pissing" on John Tuturro), but nothing is springing to mind that even comes close to the needless dog humping and robot balls. Of course I may be remembering only the good things about the first movie, so I need to go back and rewatch with a critical eye.

I wonder if after all the movies get made, will we be able to cut and snip enough film from them all to make two decent movies?
