I think it's pretty much ridiculous fearmongering.

I hope it is.

but what if it comes to pass? I don't want to live in a European socialist state. If I did, I would have already moved there...

Actually, if it comes to what is described above, I'll probably learn Chinese and go to Hong Kong.

I don't buy into the hype of President Obama's campaign.

Socialism stagnates economies. FDR's policies and programs are prime examples.

Well, if we somehow managed to not turn into a fascist regime under Bush, I think we'll escape Socialism with Obama.

Fascism is too broad a term. Both the Democrats and Republicans can be seen as pursuing fascist ideals.

1. the tenets of a centralized, totalitarian, and nationalistic government that strictly controls finance, industry, and commerce, practices rigid censorship and racism, and eliminates opposition through secret police. - "http://www.electionalize.com/info-govermentterm.asp"

While Bush may have been a bit totalitarian and nationalistic, the Republican party favors free-market capitalism, and small Federal government. No one is disappearing to secret police.

The Nazi (National Socialist German Workers) party came to power in the wake of an economic depression. Falangism (Spanish Fascism) was anti-capitalist. Italian fascism moved away from a republican (representatives) stance toward a central government figure and advocated protection of private property while allowing nationalization when private enterprise was failing.

Sort of my point. It's easy to throw big wide terms around, and claim something is happening if one smaller point matches.

For example, some people might claim that what is/was going on at Guantanamo comes fairly close to people "disappearing to secret police."

People disappear to the secret police in fascist societies for dissenting.

Engaging in terroristic activities in foreign countries makes them enemy combatants. Gitmo functions fully within the Geneva Convention.
