I'm not telling you anything you don't know but maybe I'm just reminding you of it??
Keep your head down - focus on what you have to do today and today only - forget about tomorrow and next week and next month and next year. Today is all that matters right now. If that's not a tight enough focus then only consider what you have to do in the next hour. Strip every other distraction out and refuse to stop staying afloat. Even treading water is still progress when you consider the alternative.
If you're behind in classwork sit down NOW and get caught up, if you're struggling with bad grades from tests or papers go and talk to your professors - they'd much rather see you tread water than sink. If you don't know what you're doing or why your there figure that out over Christmas break but for now - all that matters is what you have to do next and what you choose to do next.

hah thanks john. its true life only seems overwhelming when you look at it through too large of a scope. I'm seeing all of the next month with three papers, two presentations, and all my finals and it just makes me want to fall on my face and play dead.
I've always had difficulty because i always felt like i was selling myself tot he future me. A good part of me has grown sick of that over the last 5 years or so, but your advice is still true. If you close your eyes and work, it just might be done before you had a chance to bitch or moan.

Ayup - hang in there - survive the first semester, regroup over Christmas break and begin to execute against an actual plan in the second semester, even if the plan is to plan the plan...
