PrplPitrPatr (2:56:39 AM): dude, i hate money
WickedYen (2:56:46 AM): ditto
WickedYen (2:57:11 AM): i hate capitalism and consumerism in general
PrplPitrPatr (2:57:23 AM): i've seen an awful lot of bums living here, but last night this girl really broke my heart.
WickedYen (2:57:35 AM): cuentame
PrplPitrPatr (2:59:04 AM): a lot of times they get on the subway and just go up and down the trains asking for money. last night this girl hops on while jay and i were on our way to visit one of his friends at columbia and she starts out with this whole thing about "look i'm sorry that i'm in this position and i'm sure you guys must hate me for this, but i'm in between jobs and i've got nowhere to turn to. i've been to all those places that you yourselves have suggested and they haven't been much help at all. if you have anything that you could spare --- food, clothes, money, anything at all, i would really appreciate it. i haven't got any friends and nobody to help me."
PrplPitrPatr (2:59:21 AM): por muy poquito she almost made me cry
PrplPitrPatr (2:59:45 AM): she couldn't have been much older than me, and she just looked so pathetic and so helpless
WickedYen (2:59:46 AM): how old did she look?
WickedYen (2:59:57 AM): ah ok
PrplPitrPatr (2:59:58 AM): she was pretty young
WickedYen (3:00:02 AM): i dunno man.
WickedYen (3:00:39 AM): id feel bad too, but there has to be a homeless shelter somewhere in nyc
PrplPitrPatr (3:00:42 AM): i know there's some people that'll rip you off, but there was something about this girl. i mean she REALLY looked like she was in trouble.
PrplPitrPatr (3:01:14 AM): there are, but if you're on the wrong side of town with no money, you can't very well get to it.
WickedYen (3:01:22 AM): good point
WickedYen (3:01:25 AM): did you give her anyting?
PrplPitrPatr (3:03:09 AM): yeah i gave her all the change i had in my wallet. must've been a dollar or two. i actually felt kinda bad afterwards because i was like "i've got more money that i could've given her." i mean, it's things like that that'll really give you some perspective. here i am bitching that i can't handle chem and that i live in a shoebox, but at least i've got a place with everything i need and i've got my dad and my whole family to help me out if i were ever in trouble.
WickedYen (3:03:31 AM): xactly
WickedYen (3:03:44 AM): every time i feel overwhelmed by problems, i think about the congo
PrplPitrPatr (3:04:04 AM): somebody gave her a bag of cookies that they had and she got off at the same stop as jay and i, and i saw her dig into that bag for those cookies. se veia que tenia hambre.
WickedYen (3:04:14 AM): wow. :o\
PrplPitrPatr (3:06:50 AM): y lo mas lindo del caso es que i had JUST finished reading this article in this independent paper i found in the lobby of my dorm that was referrencing this essay by E.B. White about how great New York is and how there's so many different cultures in the city and that they're all so distinct.
WickedYen (3:06:59 AM): sometimes i feel so self centered and self righteous i wanna kick myself in the ass
WickedYen (3:07:18 AM): irony babe
PrplPitrPatr (3:07:34 AM): life imitates art, i guess, because there i was with the 20 bucks i'd just taken from the ATM and this girl's gotta check her dignity at the turnstile so she can scrounge together enough for a bite to eat.
PrplPitrPatr (3:08:17 AM): you know how when you're little your parents tell you to eat because there are kids starving in africa? well, you don't have to go that far.
WickedYen (3:08:29 AM): aint that the sad truth
