part 3 Oh great, why does it always have to be me?
Jongin mentally sighed as he passed the corner of the staircase because he didn’t know if this thing just happens very often to the petite male, or it was of pure coincidence that he was the always one present whenever lewd, vulgar things happen to the famous Kyungsoo.
“Ch-Chanyeol stop.”
Great Jongin. Perfect timing. Why me? I just excused myself from class just to pee, and now this? Great. Maybe I am really meant to be a witness in the court. Why am I so-
“Chanyeol… I said stop!”
He saw a guy inches taller than Kyungsoo with ears reddened leaving marks, deep bites on his neck against the wall. He sort of panicked because the small male tried his best to push the guy back on his chest but due to his small built, it was pointless.
The male was making sounds of whines and disapproval but was cut when Chanyeol aggressively lifted Kyungsoo’s chin and kissed his lips.
Why would that guy rape someone in the school? Really? He could have done it in his house or something; this guy must learn a thing or two from Kris. Jongin shook off the thought and sighed. Okay, he will stop this thing just once. Because it was as if the heavens were calling him to save the male being necked, and unfortunately there were no other people for him to pass the gallant work to, so yeah, he’ll do this once because he doesn’t really want to be a witness.
Jongin took fast steps towards the two and pulled Chanyeol’s shoulders back. The latter took a step back, swallows hard before silently running away.
“Hey, go back here!” Jongin yelled to the empty halls but Chanyeol is a fast runner. He slipped the chance of getting this thing reported to the staff, but probably Kyungsoo wouldn’t want that. His thoughts were cut off as he hears deep breaths behind him.
When he faced the other, Kyungsoo looked…..dishevelled. But good thing because at least no buttons were undressed. He still had this uniform on.
Kyungsoo gazed down, catching his breaths, not even glancing at Jongin. His eyes widened as he was yanked by Jongin in his wrist.
“Wait, what are you doing-“
“You are so careless.”
“It hurts, let me go!”
“Where are your friends when you need them?”
Jongin pulled Kyungsoo towards the door of the restroom before pushing and letting the guy go. He lightly pushed Kyungsoo in his arm, making the threshold lay in between them before speaking again.
“You know you are prone to these things right?” Jongin crossed his arm and eyed the male. Kyungsoo hesitantly looked up.
“You, you’re Jongin. You’re the guy from my homeroom.”
“You shouldn’t have gone alone. What were you thinking?” He shoot gazes mocking the male, and the male felt belittled under the tanned male thus he rested his eyes on the ground.
“For god’s sake hyung, by know you should know what to do when it comes to these things.”
“I’m sorry.”
“No don’t be, say sorry to yourself. You always look so vulnerable. Really, how many times you’ve already been cornered like that minutes ago?”
“I was just-“
“Go clean yourself! Fix your hair. I’ll wait outside.”
Jongin felt guilty after he said the world “vulnerable” because Kyungsoo lightly gasped and an offended look was shown on his face. The petite male slightly bowed and made his way on the lavatory.
It was in middle school when Jongin had his first relationship. He hadn't done it out of his will, he agreed to the girl because everyone else expected him to. He had feelings for the girl, of course, Jongin wasn't that heartless, but it took him three weeks before realizing he wasn’t really that happy, thus he broke it off. Jongin kept in mind the “3-month-rule” before he dated a Chinese transfer named Luhan. But after 2 months of the relationship, the guy knocked on his door and to introduce another guy. Jongin wasn’t depressed, but it was surprising enough that he gave himself a month to be okay. Since then, he deemed himself “too busy” to entertain relationships in the future.
It was when he transferred to the all-boys school where he met his (useless) best friend, Sehun. They instantly clicked when they became seatmates in their lab class. They found out they have a lot in common.
During his first three days of the school, a certain name of “Do Kyungsoo” has been circulating, and he remembered how he asked Sehun to show this guy to him. Upon seeing the guy, he frowned saying There’s no special thing about him, he’s just cute.
“So, how’s the famous life going huh?” Jongin asked out of boredom. He kicked a stone on the way while hunching his way to Kyungsoo’s house.
After a week of the past incident, apparently they were asked to be partners by their homeroom teacher to do a Christmas lantern for the upcoming festivities. And by that, Sehun laughed and Jongin refrained from hitting him because the teacher was still present. Come on kkamjong go for it, maybe you’ll be one of his stalkers after that! Jongin shrugged Sehun’s annoying voice away but yeah okay, it wouldn’t hurt to know how this famous Kyungsoo lives his life on home. Maybe a sneak-peek wouldn’t hurt. Heck, he even got glares from his other classmates, others deemed him “lucky” but Jongin doesn’t really care, so he took the opportunity because he really liked it when people envy him.
“Hey hyung, I’m talking to you!” He faced Kyungsoo that’s a meter away from him.
“I heard you.”
“I’m asking you.”
“Should I really answer you?” He had shaken when Kyungsoo snapped his voice, hinting annoyance. Kyungsoo continued walking and he left Jongin a few steps behind.
“Mom, I’m home!” Kyungsoo called out after putting his bag down the sofa. The tanned male followed and eyed the room. He took note of the clean furnished living room set, pictures hung on the wall and the pastel painted walls that complement the sunlight passing through the red curtains.
“Welcome home, Kyung!” A middle-aged woman appeared from Jongin assumed where the Kitchen was. Kyungsoo hugged his smaller mom’s frame and kissed her cheek. Oh sweet, people like that still exist? His gaze also lingered to Kyungsoo's mom's eyes and that he knew why Kyungsoo's eyes are wide.
“Mom, this is Jongin, he’s a classmate in my homeroom.” The male introduced him and Jongin bowed. His mom’s enthusiasm contrasted his.
“Good afternoon Auntie.”
“Oh my, welcome! Kyungsoo, you guys should go upstairs, if you need something I’ll just be here okay?” Jongin fought the urge to tell Kyungsoo’s mother the lines going along Hey auntie over 50% of the population of the school really wants to sexually harass your son.
They made their way upstairs and it just dawned to Jongin that he would see Kyungsoo’s room. He wasn’t so sure if Kyungsoo would let him see a private part of him but he remained marvelling what would Kyungsoo’s admirers (or stalkers rather) have to say in this. He mentally told himself to remain composed.
“Put your stuff on that table." Kyungsoo muttered as he closed the door. "I'll just get dressed."
As soon as Jongin went in, he felt like Kyungoo's room is a reflection of the owner's personality. Although it's not as big as his own room, Kyungsoo's books are neatly placed on a shelf. Walls are painted cream and the whole room smelled vanilla. He made little steps towards the male's tabletop and saw few pictures. Kyungsoo on his pjs, Kyungsoo on his graduation, Kyungsoo and Jongdae, and Kyungsoo with his mother. Jongin didn't really mean to pry about the other's personal life but he felt the curiosity winning.
"Hey Kyungsoo, where is your.... father?" His last word kind of faltered well Jongin didn't know that at the other side of the bed, Kyungsoo was in the half-way process of taking off his shirt, and Jongin was now faced with Kyungsoo's bare back. And he noted that Kyungsoo's back is really really white, really milky, and the boy has really a small frame.
Of course Kyungsoo doesn't mind taking off his shirt there, because it's his room after all, and because they're both guys anyway.
“He left us when I was still little.” The male has finished putting on his shirt and that was when Jongin realized his gaze stayed too much on the boy.
“I’m sorry I asked.”
“It’s okay.” Kyungsoo smiled.
They managed to list down the materials needed, and after an awkward hour of brainstorming over the lantern’s design, the sun began to set. Kyungsoo noticed the other male was checking the time, and so he broke the silence.
"I'm sorry Jongin but you have to stay until dinner. My mom is a bit forceful to guests when it comes to dining. Do you mind?" Kyungsoo peeked at Jongin who was currently jotting down notes.
“I don’t mind.” Jongin felt like his response was lacking. “To be honest, I’m getting hungry right now.”
Kyungsoo chuckled. “Well, don’t worry because my mom deliciously cooks.”
And there goes that famous heart-shaped smile the class was talking about few days ago. He felt that the awkwardness of unfamiliarity between them was starting to loosen up. They talked about few things, about Kyungsoo having no siblings, the tanned male having to clean up his dogs’ poop almost everyday (Kyungsoo laughed at that), about the latter being always teased because of his large eyes, about things that weren’t really violating their privacy. Jongin recalled the incident last week and guilt bit him again when he remembered he called Kyungsoo “vulnerable”.
“Hyung..” He called the attention of the other guy who was busy pasting some of the colourful wrappers.
“Hmm?” Although the petite male didn’t look up from his work, that made enough acknowledgment.
“Sorry if uh, last week, I called you vulnerable.”
“Oh.” The man shifted uncomfortably in his seat. “It’s cool. It’s alright.”
“I mean hyung, are you even happy with all of these… happening to you?” Jongin motioned his hands awkwardly and he fully got the attention of the wide-eyed male.
Kyungsoo sighed and after few seconds Jongin didn’t get a response.
“Forget that I asked.”
“People say they like me.” It was Jongin’s turn to get surprised because he felt like Kyungsoo is about to share something unspoken. “People say they like me. Their reason? They say I’m cute. They say it’s because of my high grades, my small built. Heck, I even heard people in the hallway said I look feminine! (Jongin made a face on this because it was sorta true) Their judgments were always of physical aspect. They don’t even look at my personality. It was always because of my looks! Never once in my childhood I imagined having these physical features a blessing because for me it served as a curse. People will never look at me inside. This just showed how harsh reality is because in books, good looking people were always happy, in books good looking people always found the ones who truly care for them, but in my own reality, that just proves everything wrong.”
That was… unexpected. At Kyungsoo’s long speech, Jongin realized three things. (1) That was the longest Kyungsoo has spoken. (2) This man in front of him, despite his good looking features, may be having one of the hardest lives out there; and (3) he learned that Kyungsoo hides a strong man deep within.
The way he viewed Kyungsoo has changed 360. Kyungsoo looked so broken, and desperate. Few hours ago he imagined Kyungsoo as this man who has all that smiles, innocence, rainbows and sparks, but now, he felt disgusted of himself because he knew that it was not okay to pity people. What more is desperate than to curse what the above has given to you?
“I’m sorry to hear that.” Jongin wanted to punch himself because the man had more or less opened up to him and he can’t even say comforting words. “Just… remember that you have not done anything wrong. And…” Jongin tried his best to squeeze out the comforting words Kyungsoo wanted to hear, because Jongin isn’t really good when it comes to this. “I’m sure you’ll find someone who will appreciate you for what you are.”
Kyungsoo was eyeing him straight, absorbing what the other was saying. He smiled and whispered a “thank you” under his breath before his mom called them for dinner. Kyungsoo also told him to not talk about these things anymore because his mother has no idea of what’s going on in school.
It was already almost 9pm when he was set off by Kyungsoo. On his way home, his thoughts were driven by a certain heart-shaped smile. He can’t deny the fact that this night’s highlight wasn’t the lantern making, but the privilege of having Kyungsoo open up to you. He learned unexpected things from the male’s snap. Jongin just wanted to take back what he said to his best friend that it would be better if Kyungsoo transfers school, because right now he felt the responsibility and the need to stand by the male whenever he would need him.
He also took notice how Kyungsoo’s eyes brighten when they talked about stuff that excited the latter. He learned that the male was really short (and cute) compared to his buff built. He also noted how the male’s lips slightly curve upward before laughing when Jongin had said corny jokes. He also proved the rumor of Kyungsoo always watching pororo because he saw dvds of it on the male’s shelf. He learned that the male is very interesting to talk to, as he voiced out opinions of the obnoxious guys from their school. He learned that he is very sweet and kind to his mom. Apparently he also knew that Kyungsoo is really introverted.
Jongin couldn’t stop smiling as he walked straight home because he had just made a new friend.
