The Cat Scratch Club hasn't changed much in the months since Mimi quit working there. It's still noisy, it's still really crowded, and it still reeks of smoke.
Mimi, stepping through the front door, feels like she's come home.
She slips through the crowd, casting an appraising eye at the girl dancing on stage (not as good as she is, but pretty), and makes her way to the bar. It's the same tender it's always been, and when he sees her, he stares at her for a second, mouth hanging open, the vaults the bar and hugs her.
"Mimi! Girl, where have you been? We've been frantic."
Mimi grins at him, a little wryly. "Long story. Involves eviction and homelessness. Tony around?"
The tender, whose name (whether real or assumed) is Aven, eyes her for a second, then nods. "Yeah, he's in back. You coming back to us, Meems?"
"That's the plan," Mimi says, and grins at him. "Wish me luck."
"Honey, you don't need it, not if you can bend like you used to."
"Better," Mimi says, and goes to knock on the manager's door.

Five minutes later, she's back on stage, wearing a skimpy skintight leather outfit and feeling the best she's felt in a very long time.
Okay, so it's not the ballet, but damn, she loves this place.
