“Ten points for Hufflepuff. Nice work Aang.” Professor Pakku murmured setting his wand  at hhis side as he turned towards the chalkboard. “The principles behind that kind of magic have been around for centuries, but they did begin with the practitioners in the sub-Saharan deserts.” he murmured, and then settled his glasses on his face as he reached his desk.

Aang rested back on his seat, kind of proud of himself. After last weeks...interesting debacle, he was pleased to see that studying last night had paid off. Out of the corner of his eyes he saw something, or, more specifically someone looking at him. When he turned to face it, he saw one of the Gryffindors giving him a rather cheeky smile.

Immediately he recognized her. The pure blood girl that'd come from a rich Muggle family.Everyone knew she had way too much power than she knew what to do with, but her desire to use it for the greater good instead of to push her own vendettas was what had put her into Gryffindor.

As Aang continued to watch her, the girl stuck her tongue out at him, and then covered her mouth as Pakku looked up from his book. “If we hop continents and move to the vast country of Australia, nearly five different schools of thought find their home in the fringes of the world. We will begin with those on Wednesday, and I expect everyone to have finished their reports about a school of thought from the African continent before next class. Six inches!” he murmured, before dismissing the class for lunch and turning towards his office.

Aang groaned, slumping back into his chair and closing his eyes. He'd had plans to go try out for Quidditch this evening--he was going to be up so late!

“Nice work ‘puff--more of those answers and you're going to make the rest of us look bad.”

Aang turned to see the Gryffindor girl staring at him, but..well, not really at him, but past him. He could already tell her eyes were damaged, a soft white haze over bright green.

“Uh, well, I tried really hard to study--even though I'm pretty sure my book spent more time studying my cheek,” he smirked, and got to his feet. “I'm Aang, it's nice to meet you.” With that he extended his hand out. Before he could berate himself, she accepted the hand shake, looking up into his eyes with her odd ones.

“The name’s Toph--But I'm sure you already knew that.” she said giving him a smug little grin. “So you want to go exploring with me?”

“But don't we have lunch right now?” he asked, his forehead wrinkling with confusion.

Toph broke out into giggles and started to walk past him. “I can't even see and I can see the funny look on your face, smart guy. The point of exploring during lunch time is that there's less professors that’ll catch us--they’ll all be at lunch or in their offices anyway.” she said, moving close to whisper the last few words.

From that close, Aang could smell a soft hint of jasmine and a little bit of blasting powder. She must have gotten a little to close to the Blast-ended skrewt.

“Come on, I promise you we won't get in trouble--and even if we do, it’ll probably be from Mr. Zhao who has no magic anyway.” she said, before pulling him out of the classroom, remarkably able to maneuver through the desks pretty easily, past his classmates and into a much more quiet hall.

Aang looked around and then towards the girl that was leading him upstairs. “Why am I following you again."

“Because puffs are always loyal and Gryffs are always brave and yadda yadda yadda. Because you want to go exploring but you'd never go on your own if not pushed." she said, and then took a quick left.

“How do you know you're way around so well?” he asked after a few more quick direction changes. Hogwarts was well known for its dizzying and constantly changing architecture, but he was having a hard time keeping up.

She turned towards him, and grinned. “You mean because I'm blind.”

“No, I mean because I'm in the same year as you are and I'm completely lost.”

Toph giggled, and pulled him into a last turn, where the hallway faded away and they ended up in a small, cozy little room, situated much like a common room except with no house colors on the wall.

“What is this place?” he asked, and Toph plopped down on the couch.

“My friend told me it was here, but I didn’t really believe her--I guess I'm going to have to tell her she’s right. It’ll blow her ego to kingdom come I wager.” Toph plopped onto one of the comfy cushions on the floor.

Aang looked to her and scratched his head again, sitting down near her as she dispensed with her cloak, and her tie, looking at him. “Are all puffs always this tense when they're breaking the rules."

“Nope, just me.” he said, laughing a bit at his own joke.

“Well, in here, I'm the queen--so I make the rules.” she grinned, setting the tie around her head like a makeshift tiara.

Aang laughed out loud, and Toph, satisfied that she'd broken the ice with him, leaned back. “Now let's study this Australia thing--I want Gryffindors to be in the lead by the time next class comes around.”

Aang gave her a grin and pulled out his notes. “You're on."
