SSH and Links

Jun 17, 2010 14:30

Mwuahahaha... It's been awhile, I know. So... i've been futzing with Links, a linux-based commandline web browser. This post is being written by such over an SSH tunnel.

For my non-computer nerds: What this means. I'm using a terminal window (think dos) to browse the web. The best part is, the actual broswer is on another machine and the traffic is encrypted: surfing history and cache are saved on the computer i'm connecting to (read: not my work machine), and the traffic between the two is encrypted meaning that to anyone monitoring me, it looks like this: ALKFJ@J)(F$JT$)(#$)$()()#@#jkn42323. The short of it is: no can monitor mine traffic :-).

Supposedly, you can do the same thing with ssh and firefox, but i've yet to try it. Plus i think firefox would still cache and log history.

Why: I dunno, it's mostly a moon expedition kinda thing (it's there, so i want to try it). It's useful if you're in situation where you dont want your traffic monitored or intercepted as EVERYTHING is encrypted (like at work... public computer... spy missions). So Ya.

I'll have to write a more indepth "here's what i'm up to" post later, but I need to get to work. I only get two of these 15 minute breaks :-P.
