I did an annotated post to 'The Promise' couple of weeks back and some people asked me if I would do the same for the series and well, I started and the first two episodes 'the boy in the iceberg' and 'the avatar returns' are up.

Excellent; my friend pointed me in the direction of 勞動改造/reform through labor yesterday, which makes Lake Laogai that much creepier.

Sorry, I'm still reeling over how much I appreciate this-I posted a link to your Tumblr on my Facebook; seeing your annotations reminds me of how much work went into developing the A:TLA world. It wasn't just a shallow attempt to toss together a bunch of Asian iconography to create an "exotic" setting; it was a concentrated effort to create something that's both an accurate representation of Asian cultures and also a unique world of their own

They did put in an amazing amount of detail, and I have to admit I am having a lot of fun trying to find where they took their inspiration from.

I am currently wading through tang and yuan dynasty art collecting the reference pictures for hairstyles. This will take a while XD and not at all because I am getting side-tracked. Who? Me?
