The Good Christian soldiers of America are gathering in St. Paul this week to whip themselves into a frenzy (maestro, the Battle Hymn of the Republic if you please) and garner support for McCain and his rather unexpected choice for a running mate,
Sarah Palin, the uber conservative governor of Alaska.
If Palin is a good Christian solider shouldn’t she be barefoot and pregnant in some back woods shanty in the tundra? She is kind of uppity for a Christian woman don’t you think? Maybe her daughter Bristol is taking over the families procreative duties at this point. Oh yeah, except for one small problem, Bristol, Palin’s daughter, is 17 and unmarried. Whoops! I guess abstinence only programs don’t work after all. The only thing to be done here is to force the underage mother-to-be is to marry the father.
Now wouldn’t a pack of rubbers been cheaper and less of a headache? Frankly condoms are a lot less messy too. The only thing messy about a condom is when you are done with it. But once disposed of those little buggers floating in the reservoir tip won’t be a problem for you. Unless your condom broke….yikes! We have all had that happen haven’t we? That’s why a good spermicide is a useful accessory to the condom, something the young couple would have known had they had sex education. If dad had a little more experience and was less squeamish he would have gone after those enterprising little bastards once he was through ejaculating like an excited puppy.
Interestingly the convention delegates don’t seem to care that Bristol Palin is preggers and according to the
Voice of America seem to be embracing her whole heartedly. In fact they seem to be giddy over a McCain and Palin ticket. Why wouldn’t they be? Palin is a Religious Conservative’s wet dream. She helps ease some of the doubts of idiots like James Dobson (Focus on the Family) who questioned McCain’s conservative credentials earlier this year. Dobson had previously announced that he would not vote for McCain, but has since retreated somewhat quietly from that earlier position. I hope he will still make good on his promise to not vote for president in November.
Palin has less experience than Obama. She has been governor of Alaska for less than two years and her prior experience was mayor of Bum Fuck Alaska, population 9000. Bum Fuck Alaska recently changed their name to
Wasilla Alaska. A town so small its amazing Palin’s daughter didn’t get knocked up sooner. Although if you can get there before September 10th you will be able to experience Wasilla’s farmers market before it shuts down for the season.
When Obama’s campaign stated their concern about Palin’s lack of experience they were accused of being sexist. How absurd! How does a concern over someone’s experience and credentials translate to sexism? Did Obama’s campaign accuse Republicans of being racist when they questioned his experience? I don’t know…I am asking. I hope not, but at the same time I don’t recall Obama going all ghetto and saying, “Oh…So now a brother can’t be president?”
This speaks to one of the qualities I have admired about Obama - his statecraft. McCain is irascible and while he may not be as stubborn he still may be a more divisive leader than Obama. Speaking of sexism - my earlier comment referring to Palin as being uppity for a Christian woman is not only sexist it’s down right bigoted. However, questioning Palin’s credentials is not.
Watch out! There is a good chance McCain’s campaign will exploit Obamas’s
William Ayers connection. Ayers was a member of a low grade radical anti-government group in the 1970’s called
The Weatherman. William Ayers was a neighbor of Obama’s and donated all of $200 dollars to his first campaign. Republicans seem to have concern over the type of company Obama keeps.
Hopefully, conservatives will choose to challenge Obama on the issues instead of resorting to dirty tactics. They are Christian Soldiers after all. If they do they may very well find that people are willing to overlook such alleged connections. Granted the weatherman engaged in illegal activities such as incited riots and bombed buildings, but they have long faded into the sad silly story that is the Vietnam era. Once the United States reached a peace accord with Vietnam in 1973 the Weatherman and other groups that comprised the radical so-called new left evaporated.
I have never put any stock in guilt by association (unless it serves my purpose). I have many friends and we don’t always agree on the issues. Some are more radical then myself and still others have done things I would not approve of. However, I am still their friend. It doesn’t mean that I agree or condone what they did.
McCain isn’t right for this country. His choice of Sarah Palin is proof of this. Palin was chosen to acquiesce to the religious right and to appeal to women. This is a shallow attempt to prove that Republican’s are “progressive” and concerned about change too. McCain is a self touted “maverick” but in reality he is nothing more than a reactionary conservative who has strayed from his centrist origins.
Under McCain - if he gets elected - we are going to see more of the same. We are going to see women’s reproductive rights challenged, H1-B guest worker visas will still be handed out like candy, the Health Care crisis will continue and the national economy will continue to tank as we flounder in this post NAFTA world.
Do we really need a president who supported Bush so adamantly this past 8 years? Can’t Conservatives even see that hasn’t worked? Don’t be fooled by McCain’s coy attempts at distancing himself from the Bush administration. We are going to hear more religious crap from the “faithful” who so desperately want us to follow their moral prescriptions that they are willing to overlook the fact that Palin couldn’t even get her own daughter to follow them.
