And the Winner is...Dale Thompson

I am not a big fan of Michael Moore as those of you close to me know. But does anyone suspect the U.S. Treasury Department of being guilty of creating a trumped up case for investigating Moore? I do! Moore has been a very outspoken critic of the Bush Administration and has worked with tireless, frenetic energy to expose the corruption that has led us to the War in Iraq.  He is a loud dissenting voice and when he speaks from his soap box or through his films people’s ears prick up and they listen.

The treasury department’s assertion that Moore may have violated restrictions of the U.S. Trade embargo with Cuba is nonsense. In a letter sent to Moore by the investigative body they stated:

This office has no record that a specific license was issued authorizing you to engage in travel-related transactions involving Cuba

Now while Moore may be guilty of violating federal restrictions this investigation is not really concerned with that. This appears to be nothing more than a  continued effort by our present White House Administration to discredit dissenters and silence their voices. If they were smart they would let this one slide as it is coming during a time when the ACLU and other civil rights groups are loudly announcing the various violation’s against American civil liberties and the constitution. If they wish to silence Moore this is clearly not the way to do it. It will only make him a martyr for the cause and make his films all that more popular.

But the federal government is not always smart. This week Mad Cow Steak House proudly awards the presitigious Sen Joseph McCarthy Award to Dale Thompson. Thompson is the Chief of Investigative and Field Operations for the Office of Foreign Assets Control, a division of the U.S. Treasury Department. Please join us in congratulating Mr. Thompson on his award. I am sure it will be something he will be able to proudly display in his home for years to come. It will be a great legacy for his grandchildren.

I wish to congratulate Mr. Dale Thompson
