I phased out of my wolf form the moment I saw him. Jasper looked so handsome standing under the trees, his skin sparkling every so often when the moon broke through the clouds. I bounded over to him, wrapping my arms around him in a hug. I know I was smiling like an idiot; I always did when in his presence.
If only I hadn’t been so happy at seeing him… I might have been able to notice how he tensed in my arms…
But I was too happy, always so happy.
“Seth…” The tone of his voice finally made me realize that something was wrong.
I blinked and looked up at his face; despite my happiness his expression was pained and hard. “Jasper? What is it?”
He raised his hand and ran his fingers along my cheek. There was something so sad about this action it had my heart racing in fear. “We can’t see each other again after this night.”
I stumbled back, a stricken look on my face. “W-what? B-but you said…”
“I’m sorry.”
“But I imprinted on you! I need you!”
His gaze turned hard. “I don’t need you. I don’t want you. I never want to see you again.”
The ground disappeared beneath my feet, at least that’s how it felt, really I just went to my knees. Rejection. Wrong. Everything inside of me was breaking into a million pieces. I heard his footsteps as he walked away but I couldn’t bring myself to look at him.
I don’t know when I wrapped my arms around myself. I don’t know when I started to cry. I don’t know when I screamed or started to rock. I don’t know when Paul found me or when he took me back to the rez. I only know one thing.
I have been rejected by my imprint. I am broken.
