Books and screenplays, oh my!

I am happy to say I will soon announce that my book of three novellas and three stories, THIS OTHER EDEN, will be published by a very cool small press in New York. I'll wait until I get a contract and for the publisher to announce.

The pieces are somewhat inter-related and have common themes of broken relationships, family, and revenge, and center around people in the commercial publishing industry -- agents, editors, writers, all composites of or veiled characterizations of Gordon Lish, William Vollmann, Anada Urban, my own agent Jim Fitzgerald, Harry Crews, Robin Dresser, Paul Slovak, Gary Fistketjon, etc.

I'm beefed up on this...

Meanwhile, I am still working on the screenplay adaptation of McTEAGUE for Sundance ScreenLabs, wrapping up the Lish book for Routledge and Star Trek book for Wayne State UP, and gearing up for my ethnography of L.A. sex workers for SUNY Press and my Carver crit book for McFarland, which should keep me busy to the end of the year -- toss in my novel LUNCH ON THE GRASS, too.

I have applied to the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation for my book on the history of Tijuana drug cartels, and will apply for a Mendel Fellowship at Indiana U. for it too. Waiting word from NEH on the Carver bio -- they fund it, I can write it quicker.
