End of Time - Reaction Post

Opening:

The moving in on the earth from afar and centering down on England was of course a reference to RTD's first ever episode 'Rose'. Self referential and self-indulgent? Possibly, but we'll let him get away with it because he deserves it. The line about 'pagan rituals to chase away the dark and the cold' was, for me, a "Yay" moment because it occured to me as a representation of DW's liberal (atheist) agenda. <3 And a bit of a giggle.

Churchtimes with Wilf:

The TARDIS in the window, also a reference back to 'Rose'? (Traces of the Doctor all through history.) Also, was that bit about ((get thee to)) a nunnery a reference to a classic ep at all? I do hope so...

And then!

The White Gaurdian, right?

Oodsphere:

Okay, so when I first saw the CiN preview, I thought it was a joke, like, the first part wasn't actually a part of the episode. Super-suprised, therefore, to find it still there. So then, hang on, what does it mean then. Oh yeah, that the Doctor's gone TOTALLY BATSHIT. Chanty oods sit very well with me, though. Let's play with rhythm and speech patterns! It makes for dramatic tension! <3 The fact that the Doctor had to 'unlock' his TARDIS on the way back in was quite nice I though, the wrongness of it, the joke now so out of place - super effective!

We like the Mister Master:

Yay! Cult! This makes perfect sense to me, of course he has a cult. Why wouldn't he? He's that kind of bloke. That kind of bloke with mind control technology. Does anyone suddenly have an Ophelia vibe off Lucy? (Okay, to be honest, I was getting a Lucy Saxon vibe of Ophelia. >.< Literature, you're doin' it wrong...) Anyway, if Mrs Saxon starts picking flowers, then I know how this one ends. At this point I had to pause it for a min to go do the whole family christmas, which meant I had a naked and swirly John Simm paused in large format on the wall for a brief time. I'm not a major Simm fangirl, but I suppose it's not an entirely objectionable state of affairs. While I suppose Lucy's suprise counterplan was a nice twist, I was so rooting for her to have gone quite entirely round the twist. She might still though, so, I'll keep chipper.

A lot of the rest of it will need a rewatch before I can possibly pass comment. So, as for the rest of it, we will simply have sporadic silliness.

Return of the double reindeer antlers! Yaaaay!

Firstly, the Doctor falling all to pieces is actually genuinely scary. Also, if the universe is converging on Wilf, does that mean the strands of time are still pulling together, and as such "One will still die."?

On seeing this:

Am I the only one who immediately thought of this:

And this:

Was not scary. It just kinda gave me the giggles. Whoops. I was thinking that it would have been more effective to have all different actors acting like the Master, rather than lots of replicated Simms. But then it occured to me that kids would totally have no idea what was going on if they did that ... hmm... Buuuut, Donna is not effected! For the why? Mystery! Intrigue! Enough irrelevent speculation to tide us over 'til new years! Yay!

And finally!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Also, I really, really, really, want this to mean that they might reintroduce Romana at some point. I mean, she did come back for the eighth Doctor audios, they might bring her back again? Please?
