It seems time for what has been my bi-monthly updates.
Part 1:
Statisitcs is done. I am VERY happy wiht my mark A-, which was a grand surprise. Today I ordered my 'official transript' and hopefully it will reach McGill...and perhaps suceed in the far more more perrilous and daunting task of manuvering it's way through it's webs of beurocratic doom. *hopes* :).
Recently I have found it easier to wake up, which sounds...stupid, but has been WONDERFUL. Foolish morning lethargicness. I waniing of summer and the cooler temperatures are to thank.
I explained to my dad that I will be giving, what will liekly end up being the majority of my pay for the summer from him. With him paying tuition and for my apartment and food...and also providing me with a job I feel it best to only keep what I will need for the school year. This makles me feel a lot better about my summer job personally.
Part 2: (continued on another computer)
Oh mother....
So far the highlight of my day is as follows: (set in grocery store line-up after I pick up and leaf through a Maxim magazine)
Jason: "it's nice to see a wider variety of maazines, then just tabloids and women's magazines each with a variation of a numerical and descriptive summery of 'a revolutionary weight loss solution".
[Male] Clerk: "ya...although there are lot's of magazines I can think of that I'd like to see on the shevles *sly, toothy grin*"
It's random little encounters like this that make trivial and monotonous chores like grocery shopping amusing, well that and having people with personalities - even the horny one's lol.
I leave a week Saturday - September 2. !!!! Madness. I'm really excited. Let's hope there is reason to be hahaha.
Last night I saw an AMAZING MOVIE / DOCUMENTARY: Metal: a Headbangers Journey.
It managed to me comprehensive (for the 90 min it was) entertaining, educational, and definantly continued to foster a sense of pride in the music I have come to form a deep and complex relationship with.
Perhaps the most memorable part of the movie was when the intervirwer, in exploring the 'most extreme' genre of metal, Norweigin Black Metal, interviewed the headman of Gorgoroth (a band I had previosuly never heard of). He was asking the man why he supported the burning of Christian Churches (something that happened accross the countery in the 90's) and what drove him to do and say what he did.
interviewer: "What drives you to [do] what you do?"
headman of Gorgoroth: *sips red wine in dank, dimly lit, dungeon-looking room* "....Satan".
He said it in the most eerie and spine tingling way, like he was tasting and relishing the name of the much disputed entity as he rolled the syllables out of his mouth. Creepy, creepy.
Interestinly enough Dimmo Borgir's cd 'Puritanical' managed to appear several times accross the dvd as an example of extremist metal. It's an excellant cd [and one I own] but the band is definantly nuts and the lyirics are idiocey. Speaking of which, it was refreshing to see many bands presenting themselves in the interviews as articulate, philosophical, wise souls - who may be expressing as sometimes extreme point of view, but either didn't take it seriously (in the case of bands like Cannibal Corpse, who actually fired their lead singer when they discoerved he beleived in the ...unpleasant lyrics... he was writing) or had a point to make (such as Slayer, whom defended their position that organized religion was a great evil in the world).
Another interesting tidbit, was the point of view of the frotnman of one of the oldest power metal bands, who is credited by many with the invention of the metal sign. He explains that he first saw it when his grandmother used it to ward of evil from some rumored neighbour and adopted it himself.
Many different types of metal were investigated, chronologically, from glam to thrash, to power to death etc. Excellant it was.
