A little blog business before I get to posting the cel collection update. I did finish my retro review last Tuesday, but when I came in to post today I realized I never posted it and it's still saved as a draft instead. However, as it's already Monday I'm just going to post it tomorrow instead so I'll have one posted early for once. :)
It's been awhile since I've posted about new cel collection updates in this blog so I'm not going to list everything we've purchased and updated since my last post about cels here. So I'm just going to hit three highlights.
First this pieces isn't strictly animation artwork, but it's close enough. It's an original sketch by master illustrator and character designer Yoshitaka Amano, who is best know for his art for the Final Fantasy series of games, Vampire Hunter D illustrations, and collaboration with Neil Gaiman on Sandman: The Dream Hunters. So it's no small stretch to declare him a god among geeks. This particular sketch was done in a book of his illustration available at the Think Like Amano art exhibition in Japan. It's a wonderful example of his style, unfortunately we do not know if this is a random on the fly character creation or if it's supposed to be one of his known characters. If it's a character you recognize, please let us know!
Next up a tribute to the 80's and my ridiculous love of unicorns, a cel from the very last episode of She-Ra, Swifty's baby. This shot features She-Ra, Swiftwind and a whole gaggle of other pegicorns on an original She-Ra background. Though the background is handpainted and from She-ra, it doesn't match this scene, it's from earlier in the episode. They look great together though so I saw no reason to separate them. I had an unnatural love of Swiftwind as a child so I'm always trying to get a hold of cels of him and if you check the She-Ra section of our gallery you'll see I've been fairly successful.
Finally a fantastic pan Shot of an entire Carload of cats from Galaxy Angel. Jen absolutely loves cats (She has her own cel gallery devoted to nothing but cats:
Millions of Cats) So we had to get this cel when the original owners took offers on it. Each of the cats has a unique pose and expression. SO CUTE! Click the image to go directly to our gallery and see the matching sketch.
If you want to review our entire collection of animation cels and related artwork please visit our cel gallery here :
http://acetateaddiction.rubberslug.com. Please be forewarned that some of the sections do contain some nudity. It's artistic nudity, but it could still cause a problem if you're browsing at work.
I hope you enjoy, I'll try to remember to share here when I update in the future. :)
