Whew, been a while since I've read this series. :)
Poor Buffy. Good job with her shock in the beginning. Even with the need to hunt the killer instinct in her wolf, it's totally believable that it would take time for the reality of the tragedy to sink in. And nice transition to the wolf pushing its way to the front only to fall back again. :)
I did feel bad for her while writing it and I drew from my own experiences to try and make her reaction as authentic as I could. Death, regardless of how exposed to it you are, tends to come as a surprise when it's someone you know and care for. I think her wolf is her protector and was/is willing to do anything to keep her safe, secrets be damned, but once the pack was there it could slip away again because it knew she was in good hands.
