Sometimes something happens to remind you that occasionally we as a race are not all evil

So I don't know how close you all follow the news. A guy was executed (disturbingly common in America) in TN yesterday. I'll spare the details of his appeals and crimes and such and just point out the interesting part.

For his last meal he requested that the prison buy a vegitarian pizza, and instead of give it to him give it to a homeless person near the prison. The man himself had been homeless during the time he was convicted of murder. The prison refused his request stating that they could not use the taxpayers money to donate to charity.

He was executed on Wednesday morning (2am) In response to this story, all day wednesday vegitarian pizza's flooded into homeless shelters in Nashville. One woman even got some friends to help her buy 150 pizzas for one particularly large shelter, and folks as far away as MN were ordering pizza's for the shelters. Most were done anonymously.

Sometimes its nice to be reminded that even out of some of the most gruesome acts humans can commit on eachother (and what is more gruesome than the systematic killing of people? Even convicted murderers...) that something good can come out of it. And that even when staring down death that people can still cling to their better natures and think of others.

Sometimes its nice to know these things, because they so rarely seem to happen in our world. Which is a shame. Our world can use a whole lot more kindness.

here's a link to a story about this on cnn
