I love food, and I love cooking too. I hate the sometimes-epic fails that come with cooking; those are frustrating and expensive.
But anyway, I've always had sort of...odd...culinary tastes. When I was a kid and we ate spaghetti, I liked to eat it with bread. I would make "spaghetti sandwiches" and devour them. I think my family was slightly amused by my spaghetti sandwiches, but I cannot express in words my love for them. I also really liked ketchup. I would put ketchup on eggs and steak especially. My mom used to scold me for it at restaurants. As I grew older, I began "inventing" foods. For a long time, my favorite was chocolate chips, peanut butter, and cheerios nuked in the microwave until the chocolate and peanut butter melted together. Childhood bliss.
Anyway, one of the other things I really really love is tuna pasta salad. I like cold pasta; I used to eat leftover spaghetti for breakfast (still do, actually). So, for this one, I make a bag of those little twisty pastas, pour in two cans of tuna including the juice, a tablespoon of lemon juice, three tablespoons of mayo, half a chopped apple, one slice of chopped onion, and a chopped up cucumber. Then I add salt and pepper to taste (and sometimes a little more mayo or lemon juice). Anyway, my point is, this is delicious. It's one of my favorite foods in the whole friggin universe. I tried making it for potluck once in America, though, and no one would eat it. I was slightly crushed, but decided I just had really weird taste buds and to stick with cupcakes.
Well, Japan loves my tuna pasta salad. And they eat spaghetti sandwiches. And put ketchup on omelets and don't think I'm crazy at all for putting ketchup on steak.
So, now I think that I don't have really weird taste buds - I think Americans don't like the idea of fish in pasta. And I really can't understand why. You guys are missing out, big time. Granted, not a huge fan of tomato-tuna sauce, but salmon-spinach cream pasta? Amazing. My tuna pasta salad? Also amazing. lol
