All I Want for Christmas...

"Pon? Hey Pon!"

Hiroto, who had been giving his entire attention to the spiral notebook resting against his drawn up knees, jumped and tumbled sideways off of the couch and onto the floor. Clutching the notebook tightly to his chest, he looked up into Nao's face, a blush rising in his cheeks.

"What?" he asked weakly.

"What are you doing over here?" Nao asked, smiling. "Looks serious."

"Nothing!" Hiroto said quickly, slapping the cover of the book shut and cramming it into his bag. "Nothing, absolutely nothing. It's not important. Shouldn't we get back to practicing?"

Nao's expression was startled at best. Hiroto was acting nervous, and the blush on his face was a dark red now. Confused, the drummer turned back to the rest of the band, shrugging.

Practice went smoothly from there. Hiroto found it easy to relax with his guitar in hand, but he couldn't shake the feeling that Nao was staring at him from behind his drums. An hour later, they took another break, and he retreated back to his corner of the couch, curling into a ball with the notebook on his knees. Saga and Tora vanished and Shou made himself busy with his PSP. The vocalist was nursing a sore throat and Nao was considering letting them all go early.

"Hey guys!" Saga shouted as he and Tora tumbled back into the room. "It's snowing!"

"Then let's call it a day," Nao said, mock sighing in disappointment. "You two baboons probably want to go play."

Saga punched Nao in the shoulder, but no one argued. Everyone packed up quickly, eager to be out of the building and into the fresh powder. Shou was coerced into going straight home under Nao's strict orders to get better, not worse. Grumbling, Shou let Hiroto drag him out the door.

Nao was the last one to leave the room. His eyes made a quick scan of the space to make sure everyone had taken their belongings and his gaze fell on the couch where Hiroto had been sitting. Discarded in the rush to leave, Pon had left behind his notebook. Curiosity getting the better of him, Nao crossed the room and picked it up. Non-descript with a plain blue cover, it was tattered and used. Flipping through the pages, Nao smiled at the many scribblings and doodles that Pon had done. Bits of lyrics and thoughts scrawled in messy kanji covered the pages front and back. Toward the end of the book, Nao came across three pages of scribbled out lines. His brow creased as he flipped to the last page, this one pristine and perfect, the handwriting beautiful and in flowing lines.

"Dear Santa,

All I want for Christmas this year is Nao.

Everything else is inconsequential.

Sincerely, Hiroto."

Nao smiled and closed the notebook, placing it back exactly as he'd found it. The owner would no doubt come back for it, afraid that his secret would be revealed. Moving back across the room, Nao turned off the lights and pulled the door shut. Still smiling, he left the building.

Saga and Hiroto were dancing in the parking lot, trying to catch snowflakes on their tongues. Tora stood with his back to the building, his hands in his pockets. Nao joined him, still smiling. Tora cast him a sideways glance and followed his gaze, smiling as Hiroto jumped on Saga's back.

"Merry Christmas," Tora said, looking Nao.

"It will be."
