Edgeworth...oh, you were Head Boy in your seventh year weren't you?

[Nuriko's a year younger than Edgeworth so he does remember this.]

Yes, that's correct. [a pause, thinking] Ah, you were one of the young ladies from Gryffindor, if I'm not mistaken. Weren't you on the Quidditch team?

Are you faculty here now?

A beater, you have a good memory, it's nice to see you again. I'm Nuriko...ah but you'd probably remember me at Korin Doherty Chou, I went through a name change after school.

Correct, I started as a TA last year and now I'm the Professor of Astronomy.

Likewise. I don't recall us interacting much, being in different Houses and Years, but perhaps that shall change now that we are both members of the staff. If it isn't a touchy subject, may I ask why you changed your name?

That's an impressively fast promotion. You must have been very skilled in Astronomy in school.

Perhaps so. And no I don't mind but I'll give you the shortened version so I don't go on too much.

I wasn't sure what to do with myself after school so I did a bit of soul searching. Long story short when I came back here to look for work I felt like I had a fresh start, almost like a new identity, and with that I went with a new name. Nuriko was always a nickname but in the end I felt more comfortable with it than Korin. Change seemed to follow pretty easily since I've ended up with a new surname as well recently.

I think it was just a bit lucky. The previous professor took early retirement and since I was holding down the class anyway Dumbledore just decided to give me the full time position since it would have been a bit jarring to get a new teacher in the middle of the school year when I already knew the students and what needed to be done for classes. I guess I must have seemed at least capable.

I see. I can understand your logic. The allure of a new identity, unfettered by the strings of the past, can be powerful. You mentioned a surname change. Have you married?

So far I've only met one teacher who makes me dubious of Dumbledore's choices, and rest assured, you are not that person.

Well I'd like to say I've not forgotten the past, I just won't let it hold me back from enjoying life.

Yes, just during the summer break. Actually you might remember him, being a fellow Ravenclaw. Does the name Hotohori Seishuku ring any bells?

That's good to know, though now I'm worried who you're talking about.

Congratulations are in order, then. I admit, I find it a little odd people I attended school with are now getting married. Hotohori Seishuku... ah, yes, he was one year beneath me. He was a fine Housemate. I'm certain you'll have a happy marriage with him.

Believe me, he is very difficult to ignore.

Thank you very much, I appreciate the well wishes. I suppose it does feel peculiar at our age but I'm probably not so much bothered by it considering my brother married younger than I did, and now has children as well. I take it that you're still single then?

You'd be surprised the number of teachers we get that are aren't too conventional.

Ah, I suppose it isn't so strange if your family is accustomed to relatively young marriage. Do you enjoy being an aunt? And yes, I am single. I'm probably not what one typically considers the "marrying" type.

That's putting it very politely. Well, I'll attempt to contain my skepticism as long as they provide exemplary education.

No worries. <3 strong_inaskirt September 11 2010, 00:17:26 UTC
I do love my niece and nephew but considering they're toddlers and that my sister in law see's fit to make me her personal babysitter, well, some of my belongings ended up covered in sticking fingerprints and crayon marks. And if I may say so I was pretty sure I wouldn't be committing anytime soon, so you might be surprised at what can happen Professor Edgeworth.

We've had no major problems as far as I can remember with staff, it was a matter of getting used to some of the more eccentric methods used by the more unconventional teachers.
