I was thinking lately that HBP- the 6th book in the series- is hardly likely going to be your 'conveniental' HP book. On the contrary, I believe that the HBP will be the most controversial HBP book to date, bar none

My problem was I never even saw Sirius as that major a character. I remember going through Order of the Phoenix, and when Sirius's death came up, I was all...."THAT'S IT?" Dude, I was more upset about Qui-Gon Jin's death in Star Wars. :P I dunno. I guess I couldn't feel that terrible about it since, all things considered, he wasn't really around for Harry much in his life. He was kind of like a false hope in a way.
On the other hand, I think *most* (if not all) of the major deaths will be adults, specifically mentors. I think we'll lose Dumbledore, McGonagall, the remainder of the Marauders, Moody, and other various order members. (No, not all in Book six.) Gut feeling mostly, but there seems to be this feel in the story overall of the current generation taking over where the last one left off, as well as renewed life. It's like the Lion King in a way. We're already seeing signs of this "new generation" deal. Dumbledore's Army anyone?
I have the strangest feeling that Hagrid and Snape will stick around for the entire series. (Okay, maybe it's because they're contracted for all the movies? LOL) No idea what to expect from book seven for them.
Of course, not all the loss will be on the good guys' side. Call it morbid, but I think we can take some comfort in that.
